lowkey skeptical for this reason…the guys notoriously sketchy and is probably trying to get clicks and comments from those on the WL
wait yeah that’s what made me suspicious too it was so insanely late lol they never do that plus the student said like they JUST got off which isn’t possible
There’s additional Court proceedings on July 21st. I read this today in the NYTimes.
“Negotiators have been exchanging communications about what the administration wants from Harvard and what the university may be willing to accept. But the outcome of the hearing in Boston on Monday could shift how much leverage each side has in the talks.”
This leads me to believe we won’t hear anything until probably the very end of July or August. I hope I’m wrong about that. I k is we all want clarity ASAP.
nah bruh that’s so late why don’t they just do it niw
Harvard said they’ll inform waitlisted students at the earliest possible date. They also said that they are still determining whether the waitlist will be utilized for the current application cycle.
The judge overseeing this case is Allison Burroughs, an Obama appointee who’s highly likely to side with Harvard. If that happens, the Trump administration will almost certainly appeal.
That appeal would go to the First Circuit Court of Appeals—made up entirely of judges appointed by Democrats. A loss there would push the administration to take the case to the Supreme Court, which could take months to resolve.
Even if the details shift slightly, it’s hard to imagine a scenario where the losing side doesn’t continue appealing. I don’t think any court ruling will produce an immediate or meaningful shift in outcomes.
At this point, the only real possibility for a broad wave of movement (as opposed to a few scattered offers) is if Rubio decides to revoke student visas at Harvard. That action falls under the Secretary of State’s authority and can be done without SEVP challenges.
Thanks. When you say Harvard said they would inform waitlisted applicants at the earliest possible date and they are still deciding whether to use the waitlist, when and where did they say that?
In response to an email I sent asking for timeline clarifications regarding the waitlist.
Thanks. What do you understand them to mean by “whether the waitlist will be utilized for the current application cycle?”
I understand it to mean that they’re deciding whether to close the waitlist without offering any more offers.
Thanks. I’ll understand you are the messenger (and it is appreciated), but that does not seem realistic given that they don’t know how many international students will elect to take gap years in the next few weeks.
I agree. If they are unable to resolve this issue before the start of the school year, they’ll likely just offer us a spot on another extended waitlist rather than close it entirely.
I think a key decision Harvard has to make is whether to take the risk to over enroll before the start of the school year. It seems overwhelmingly likely the Trump administration would win the SC appeal and the international student visas/I-20s would be subject to revocation in the middle of the semester. This is a real risk that Harvard may need to hedge.
Does anyone know at what point they lock your portal as some have reported? Is it just before being informed if you are accepted or rejected? Or after? Cause mine still has no activity so I suspect I’m not hearing anything today. Please put me out of my misery.
What does it mean “they lock your portal?” My portal still says my last status update was the letter back in March that stated they were placing me on the waitlist. I can still click on it and read that letter. There’s no other updates in mine. I would hope they’d send an actual update (like an acceptance or rejection) and not just lock me out of everything with no explanation. Had that actually happened to waitlisted people?
To add to that, Rubio has the power to circumvent the SEVP procedure entirely and just revoke visas arbitrarily. I definitely agree that Harvard should enroll more students than in past years to account for that scenario.
In the email I sent, Harvard informed me that they will contact every applicant via email. There’s no need to check the portal if you haven’t gotten an email.
A friend of mine who got waitlisted at a different ivy had his portal “locked,” which essentially just means that application materials like LOCIs won’t be viewable.
To clarify, this was after the college closed the waitlist entirely.
I bet Harvard calls it a day soon and picks up extra kids next year as transfers.
It’s much worse for them to be over enrolled than under enrolled. They don’t care about an extra million or two in tuition income. They do care about not having beds for kids.
Also, many internationals are not paying full tuition anyway. They’re not losing $90k per kid.
