Harvard Waitlist Thread 2029

Reddit says 7/31 for international students, end of June for others.

I agree that they will wait until 7/31 if that’s the deferment deadline. I think 7/21 Court ruling will be irrelevant in a way because no matter which side wins that, it will likely be appealed up to the Supreme Court no matter what. Also, for the court case on 7/21, is that a one day thing? How long afterwards would the judge give her ruling?

Agree on all except there is nothing official with 7/31 deferment deadline for international students. Could have been 6/30 deadline for all we know.

Is it that there is no deferment deadline or is that we don’t know?

When I googled it, there was a link to a Harvard page that said International students had until July 31st but then when you click on the page, it looks like you can’t access it or it was removed?

Harvard website says deadline for electing to take a gap year is end of June. There are rumors floating around about end of July for international students but have not seen anything official.

The only way to know for sure is to contact HIO.

I also saw that the deferral deadline for international students was listed as July 31 on their website, but that page has since been taken down and now shows 'access denied

Hey guys,
I don’t if it is true or not. But I got this from chatgpt :

Harvard College’s “Important Update for First‑Year International Students” confirms that the deferral deadline for international first‑year admits (Class of 2029) has indeed been extended to July 31 . Independent discussion threads (e.g. r/Harvard, College Confidential) referencing that same announcement also point to July 31 as the cutoff .

So yes—you can be very confident that July 31, 2025 is the deferral deadline for international students entering in Fall 2025 (Class of 2029). If Harvard were to change that, they’d need to update the Dean’s Message or the official Admitted Students portal, which hasn’t happened.

That is for 2020. If you paste the link in archive wayback machine you can check out the original page.

Suman, we’re unable to access that link, and a few people mentioned it might be from 2020.

That said, I think it’s reasonable to assume that this year’s deferral deadline for international students is also July 31st. Colleges often use the end of the month for these types of deadlines (such as for waitlists). If they used that date during the COVID year, it’s likely they’re following a similar timeline now.

Since the last person was accepted on Monday would it be possible that the next wave is tomorrow?

Do we think it will be a “wave” or just a trickle of acceptances off the waitlist here and there, one at a time ?

Yeah at this point it’s looking like the latter. Unless there’s a singular wave to replace internationals that deferred all at once.

i think likely only a few ppl off and then a wave after 7/31 once a total is received about how many intl have deferred

Do we know if anyone has heard anything in the past few days?

well harvard just won in court

It’s expected though. So it doesn’t change anything. Harvard still needs to answer the question: what if Trump wins the SC appeal, which is very likely ?

Visas are still being stamped, so I think the odds of a large under‑enrollment are slim; however, a modest shortfall remains conceivable if processing hiccups persist. Local consular backlogs or individual visa refusals can still delay arrivals, and I expect Harvard will make a hard decision after July 31. Even if the SC appeal is filed in August, it won’t affect wait-list decisions for the c/o 2029, simply because time will have run out.
