Harvard Waitlist Thread 2029

This was for funding. Not the visa case with DHS.

True. But the visa case will be the same outcome with this judge. It’s eventually up to the SC, which isn’t happening any time soon.

The case regarding visas was appealed to the first circuit court. She does not make decisions over that (at the circuit level)

So then what happens now with visa stuff,? And what does this all mean for us on waitlist?

Yes you’re right. I remember that now . But the first circuit judges are almost all Obama/Biden appointees. So it’ll still go to the SC.

Let’s not read the SC tea leaves; whatever happens there will land long after Harvard has locked the c/o 2029.

To be honest, I don’t think that any ruling below the Supreme Court is meaningful for International Students. After all, there is an incredibly high chance that the Supreme Court will rule in favor of the Trump administration. In that case, many International Students will be in a terrible situation. It seems most logical that a lot of deferrals will come through at the last possible minute (July 31).

I feel like Harvard knows that the Supreme Court decision will not go their way, so I would think that it’s logical for them to admit a considerable number of students from the waitlist.

My thought exactly.

but wouldn’t it be that harvard needs to plan for that event (bc likely a bunch of deferrals will also come through)

I saw this today and I didn’t realize that even the appealable District Court decision may not actually come out until after the school year is set to begin.

While Judge Burroughs appeared skeptical of the government’s arguments, according to The Wall Street Journal, a final decision has not been announced as of the morning of July 22nd. Harvard has requested an expedited decision, no later than September 3rd, 2025.

Has anyone heard anything about students being accepted from the waitlist this week?

I think the most realistic outcome is that nothing is done in time and Harvard doesn’t take kids off the waitlist. If they lose kids last minute they will take sophomore transfers.
What they don’t want to happen is end up over-enrolled this year.

no i don’t think so. transfer overload would be more problematic. most realistic case i think things won’t finish in time, forcing them to take off more full pay students from first year waitlist.

Got this from Reddit. I think Harvard should be well aware of the likelihood (or lack thereof) of reaching an agreement with the Trump administration and there should be plans accordingly, including accounting for the international student situation.

In court filings, a previously undisclosed memo was revealed that called for massive changes to Harvard, the likes of which no university could agree.

Including:

A lien placed on all Harvard assets.
A federally-appointed provost to oversee departments “reform” efforts
A ban on student government
Placing certain departments under receivership.

and many other things.

More troubling was this line:

“But the memo cast those moves as only a beginning, presenting them as a baseline for more sweeping reforms.”

yeah for this reason i feel like even if they are allo d more intl will defer so they use more wl

Are there no international waitlist or admitted students on this thread? If yes, what has been your experience and communication with Harvard? Are you considering deferring and do you have a deadline to decide?

Maybe you all should try reaching out to your regional AOs? Possibly we all should be more direct when asking Harvard people about stuff like intl deferrals because when I communicated with my regional AO it was very ordinary topics like LOCIS etc. Maybe hitting the nail head on will yield clearer results.

For my two cents I am betting on a larger wave after the July31st deadline although still keeping expectations low.

how do u even find out ur regional AO contact lol
