No, it’s just when I think decisions will be released. I believe that there’ll be acceptances.
Why does a Monday mean that everyone gets rejected?
I saw last year someone wrote this message below on the thread. I have a feeling I’ll be writing something similar next week.,
“Good bye everyone! It was really helpful to go through this waiting agony with you all. Four long months wondering… Having closure is what we all needed to fully embrace other great options. Best of luck to all!”
In 2020, I guess the reason why they closed the WL so quickly (after defer deadline) was because they rejected everyone and didn’t have to go through the selection process. If they were to accept people and go through the selection process this year, it would take more than a couple of days, unless they pre-ranked the candidates, contrary to what they have claimed.
So if we hear Monday, it’s likely the waitlist will just close? Is that what happened to the Class of 2024?
Nevermind. I see where you’re coming from. Hopefully no news is good news on Monday!
Also, I anticipate that not everyone on WL will be rejected. This year is different from 2020 in that there aren’t a ton of upperclassmen returning from the gap year like in 2020. I quote someone’s description of it from the 2020 cc thread.
Although H might have 300 kids taking gap year from 2024, they probably have double that number taking gap year from 2023. These 2023 gap kids all became 2024 kids in July, stifling most kids like us on 2024 WL.
Just wanted to share my reasoning with you folks, realizing that I could also be wrong. Best of luck to you all in any case.
That’s a reasonable line of thinking. In 2020, the waitlist closed on Monday, August 3rd — the first business day after the international deferral deadline (July 31st). This year, yesterday marked the same timing (though, it was a Friday), but no decisions were released. That suggests Harvard may be handling things differently this year, which could be a positive sign for those still hoping to get in.
It’s also possible that Harvard’s policy is to release decisions the week after they’re finalized. If so, we’ll have to wait until Monday to see if things are in fact being approached differently.
Personally, I still believe Monday is the most likely date. It’s unlikely that the admissions team has been idle the past few weeks — they probably already know who they’d admit if spots opened up. Delaying announcements until Thursday would only make it harder for those students to accept, giving Harvard little reason to wait that long.
That makes a lot of sense.
I’m feeling a little “Schrodinger’s Cat-ish” with this situation.
Fully in agreement, they simply can’t afford to wait much longer if they want yield from the people on the waitlist. Tuition payment deadlines are passing and some colleges are starting in a week or two. I don’t know exactly when Harvard starts but it’s not exactly easy to change your plans with such short notice, especially if you’ve already paid tuition. I don’t want to speak for anyone else, but at some point, even “Harvard or die” people have to say no to an offer
I’m in a conflicted position right now. I am currently in the Summer term for a different institution, and finish next week. Because I ahve already started with a different institution, I wonder if I can even accept a position of the Harvard waitlist if I even get one. Harvard does accept credits from different institutions, yes?
That sounds kind of dicey. If you do get off the Harvard waitlist, I think you should be upfront about this and ask.
I will, I just hope I can get a decision before August 3rd. I can only get a full refund for the fall term of my current institution if I complete the refund request process before August 11th.
I still say there are plenty of people who will double pay the fall. $45K is nothing to a many families.
I asked about this at the start of the summer because I was considering taking some summer classes but Harvard said that any college class you take after high school and before freshman year of college will NOT give u any credit at Harvard — feel free to double check with them again if u want! I don’t get this policy it kinda sucks lol
Thank you for enlightening me. Sucks to know that I may have suffered throughout the summer to no avail.
I also will note that there will probably be motion on the waitlist tommorrow. Today’s a Sunday.
Is that your speculation or you have intel on that?
