Very true. It’s more about you than the college you attend. That said, fit matters in college life regardless of prestige. Good luck to all no matter what the decision may be.
Harvard is standing firm because making a “deal” with Trump is like Lando making a “deal” with Darth Vader in Empire Strikes Back. It is not a real “deal.” What Columbia announced as a “deal” is a starting point for Trump to ask for more concessions in a few weeks/months.
It is telling that Harvard asked that Judge Burroughs have jurisdiction to oversee any “deal,” and Trump rejected that.
There will not be a deal (or certainty for international students) this week, this month, or this year. That Columbia thinks otherwise is mindboggling.
Have to agree with this take, it’s very well said. Thus Harvard only seems to have two options-
take the risk of over-enrolling relatively many (~30-60) this week, most likely Monday or Thursday/Friday and send out rejections for everyone else.
OR
continue holding everyone as close as they can to the start of school like the Stanford example earlier. Then, watch everyone withdraw as school starts or tuition is due to find their final, final, determined Harvard “ride or dies”.
I personally think that they will choose the later, stubbornly and unfortunately for us.
So, if I don’t get a result personally or there’s no reports online, I’ll be sending an email to my AO and let everyone know if they respond. There’s no harm in doing so as like someone said, we’re rejected anyways. I suggest everyone else try their best to do the same. (because after this / next week it is virtually over for 90% of waitlistees)
And last thing- it has been an amazing year for myself personally regardless of Harvard. I hope it has been the same or somewhat so for everyone else. To echo others- please try not to fixate on this singular school and their very messy year- enjoy your summers/beginnings of college! Best of luck.
I hope that Harvard does give us some finality this week because the International Student Deferral Deadline has passed. I’m not sure if it will happen today, though—maybe later this week (August 6th-8th).
Well, within a few hours we may finally get some closure.
If Harvard finally sends something out this week,
- what time of day are they most likely to send an email
- are we predicting another email that says they are still working on it and do you want to remain on the waitlist again
- will it be a mass rejection
- will they just notify some people of acceptance with continued silence for the rest of us
- if they accept a few more people and some of them decline, will they continue to pull from the waitlist
- how many just outright rejections will there be
Anyone want to take a stab at any of these.
Is Jack Davis still around he always had the insider info
Yeah, where is Jack these days. I loved reading his predictions.
@JackDavis, we’d appreciate your input on this
During the COVID year, it was released on a Monday at 5 PM EDT
lol his absence sent a bad feeling to me as it may indicate things have not been developing in our favor🤣
Sorry, I was out vacationing this past week.
As for the waitlist I know they are definitely going to make more decisions. I don’t know when though since the SEVIS case has been appealed to the circuit court, and there is still no chance in my mind that Harvard will strike a deal with the admin.
It could be this week or it could be a slow burn where students slowly start removing themselves.
I definitely can say they will make more admits.
I still have my student waiting for a response from the school. Unfortunately I thought they’d be done by mid-July. They should probably hurry up and make those decisions quickly.
do we have any final estimates on the defer numbers?
Another interesting article I read today
" U.S. colleges and universities could see their international student enrollment decline by as many as 150,000 students this fall." - From Forbes article. WBZ-TV (CBS Boston) profiled a Harvard Graduate School admit whose F-1 visa was initially denied but who secured a follow-up interview for August 12. Because visa outcomes remain uncertain, Harvard is likely to move on its waitlist slowly and case-by-case, waiting until the last minute to see which international students obtain visas so as to avoid either over- or under-enrolling the class
Based on that, I’m guessing we won’t hear anything today. I’ve checked my portal just incase and the last thing there is still just the status update from March 27th. Ugh!
There could be case by case movements. But more likely than not, they will be on top of a batch movement because it’s hard to believe no one deferred by the 7/31 deadline.
It’s probable that Harvard has been admitting from the waitlist on a case by case basis since early June. Do you really think they are going to wait until the deferral deadline and admit a “wave”? As an example, if an admitted student deferred in early July, it stands to reason that they would have gone to the waitlist then and not waited 30 days to find a replacement. That’s typically how waitlists work in the mid to late summer.
You could rescind your defer decision by 7/31, no?
