Harvard - Wanted: 'Adventurous woman' to give birth to Neanderthal man

[‘Adventurous human woman’ wanted to give birth to Neanderthal man by Harvard professor | Mail Online](<a href=“'Adventurous human woman' wanted to give birth to Neanderthal man by Harvard professor | Daily Mail Online”>'Adventurous human woman' wanted to give birth to Neanderthal man by Harvard professor | Daily Mail Online)

"They’re usually thought of as a brutish, primitive species.
So what woman would want to give birth to a Neanderthal baby?
Yet this incredible scenario is the plan of one of the world’s leading geneticists, who is seeking a volunteer to help bring man’s long-extinct close relative back to life.

Professor George Church of Harvard Medical School believes he can reconstruct Neanderthal DNA and resurrect the species which became extinct 33,000 years ago."

Yeah, okay. I’ll believe it when it happens.

I’ll give it a go! - Mary Shelly

Yeah, sure. What ethics committee would ever approve this?

A bit mismatch of technology, cutting edge DNA construction needing a good old volunteer.

I’m afraid that this volunteer will need to be quite young. Her uterus must be perfect.

Can we do away with the Neanderthal slander? ;)

“Archaeological evidence demonstrates that Neanderthals made musical instruments. The book “Neanderthals Sing” explores their amazing propensity for singing – even above language. So even though they may have had a bellicose nature – they also may had a much deeper, more beautiful and tender way of communing with each other through song. The curiously empathic Neanderthals were tapped into the symphony of nature.” :)

And then what? Is this woman going to raise the Neanderthal baby? would a Neanderthal have the mental ability to exist in a modern world? Or is the researcher planning on putting this baby on exhibit? Really smart people have some really dumb ideas.

No, yes, not exactly, indeed.

It’s the volume of ideas that counts.

If it can be done, seems cruel to create only one. Wouldn’t she be lonely?

Isn’t that website basically a tabloid?

OMG.
LOL. He’ll need a woman, no.
Seriously, though, creepy. Poor Neanderthal guy.

second headline:
Wanted: Neanderthal man to sleep with adventurous woman.

I cannot wait for the post 18 years hence.
Chance me for Harvard…me stats BAD, but me born there. Me have chance?

Why a neanderthal man – why not a woman?

Well… in the immortal words of Jeff Goldblum …Just because you can (assuming this is actually possible) doesn’t mean you should…

Just want to point out that there’s no actual evidence that Neanderthals were less intelligent than modern man.

Now the anthropologist in me will shut up and the rest of me will go oy vey.

psychmom - where is your quote about neaderthal man and music coming from?

I do find the ethics part quite baffling.

Will the genetics ethics apply here?

Will a neanderthal person be considered human?

Assuming this professor gets a volunteer, is this considered legal at this time, i.e., is anyone aware of any laws that would be broken?

If anything in clan of the cave beat can be believed the mom would have a difficult delivery guess it’s good there’s c-sections!

Someone should write a novel…

Musica – Your post had me rolling.

Seriously – what is wrong with these researchers? Maybe they need a woman too.
