@zinhead – bet Woody’s head will be on the chopping block soon as well. Long time coming for that guy.
So are a lot of things; casting is pretty specific. For example, roles are typically cast by race. Does that mean I should call Will Smith and Morgan Freeman “blactors”?
The entertainment industry is still a wonderful industry. The good parts are still good. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t bad parts too. That’s true about any aspect of society. And many in the entertainment industry have also been trying to draw attention to injustices within the industry for a long time.
The Hollywood - NYC entertainment industry isn’t another country, separate from the USA. They still get to have and voice opinions about our country and the representatives in our country, even while their workplace is imperfect. If we have to have a perfect home, workplace, town, city, state etc before we are able to voice criticism over our federal government, then who exactly is left that can make those criticisms?
I find it ridiculous that there are people saying that actors shouldn’t be voicing disgust for other causes while bad things are happening in hollywood.
Some folks wrongly believe actors and athletes are there purely to entertain them and shouldn’t be allowed to voice their concerns and exercise 1st Amendment rights.
@“Cardinal Fang” If you have issue with the term actress then contact the Academy Awards. I’m sure they’ll be happy to change Best Actress to Best Female Actor for you.
It’ll happen in my lifetime, stardustmom.
I’m sure we’ll see many changes in Hollywood in the coming months.
Don’t hold your breath. There’s power dynamics that may be hard to change so quickly. If choosing talents is meshable and somewhat arbitrary, it will continue in some fashion.

I dont know His daughters accusations have been countered by his son who accuses their mother of manipulating/planting stories in her kid’s head. The whole thing seems like a terribly messed up situation but isnt an employment issue and the story has been out there for years. He’s now been married to Soonyi for like 20 years so even though that situation is super icky its unlikely to affect him now if he’s survived this long. And Marielle Hemingway his one work related situation that we know about ( she was like 17! ) has written extensively that she firmly is of the mind that it was completely consensual and she was technically of age. If someone comes forward with stories of something non-consensual behavior than yes he’ll be on the chopping block. But otherwise not sure.

Bill Clinton is missing from your list. Was he omitted because his exploits aren’t recent? Bill Cosby’s abuses aren’t recent either, although his trial was.
I’ve noticed that the media too, when discussing serial abusers in op-eds about HW, generally leave Bill Clinton out of the discussion. Hmm.
@whatisyourquest All of the ones I listed have been in the news recently. Clinton was 20 years ago, and has probably had more tv time than all of the others combined.
The other recent one that I should have included is the Silicon Valley issues with sexual harassment. It does not have a specific face on it, but it does seem to be common.
@maya54 Actually, the state of CT founded the complaint against Woody Allen, based on evidence they documented. Mia Farrow chose not to pursue the criminal complaint, asked the state not to, so to spare her young family further invasion and trauma.
That Woody had pornographic photos of the daughter he was a father figure for, and later married her, makes it not very hard for most people to connect the dots.
Folks are now wondering why Weinstein was allowed to proceed with his activities? Well, ask the same question of those who continue to work with Woody Allen.
Show biz may be more naked than other businesses in its level of pure sexual exploitation.
@“Cardinal Fang” --totally admire your prose and political position.
I agree that the allegations about Bill Clinton are not recent. But they were in the news during the presidential election, which of course was less than a year ago.

So, Bill Clinton has earned a spot in any discussion about serial sexual abuse. Similar situation as Bill Cosby, IMO. Old allegations, but in the news, nevertheless.
Clinton is not exactly like Weinstein or aAikes,Cosby or O’ Reilly. . There were 3 main situations
-
Paula Jones. A court ruled that the facts she herself alleged were not sexual harassment. She testifued under oath that she had been asked by state troopers to come up to the Govenor Clintons room. The troopers testified that they thought she knew this was for a sexual encounter but she had no idea and believed it work related. She went to his room and he… " took it out". She recoiled in horror. Clinton says " I wouldn’t want you to do anything you don’t want to do " ( again this her testimony…it can be found in the courts ruling on summary judgment.). He did not cajole her or threaten her to stay. ( her testimony) Thereafter he was always civil. ( same) She was thereafter promoted in the normal course.

Monica Liwenski. She testified under oath to Ken Starr that their encounter began when she found herself alone with the President during the unusual situation of shutdown. She says that she flirted with the President and made the first move by lifting her skirt to show Clinton her thong. Clinton then, she testified, sought consent and asked her " Would it be ok if I kissed you". She consented. She thereafter sought out Clinton for encounters. She testified at the time that she engaged in this activity not to get or keep a job or because he asked her and she was afraid to say no, but because she was smitten with Clinton. No claim for harassment could be made.
-
Juanita Broderick. Has accused Clinton of rape which would put us in the Weinstein camp except that she filed an affidavit under oath that there was no rape sexual assault or harassment of any kind. She later recanted. But it would of course be impossible to know for sure when she was not telling the truth. No prosecutor would possibly pursue charges under such a circumstance.
Right now the accusations against Weinstein involve him repeatedly pressuring job seekers to engage in sexual acts which is harrament . And rape. No rape accuser has file a contradictory affidavit. Thus leaving open the door to sexual assault charges.
Ailes and O’Reilly have also been accused of acts of outright employment based harassment the key being promising jobs or office favorsin return for sexual acts or threats in connection with employment. Cosby has been accused of rape. There is not a contradictory under oath statement by an accuser.
@Maya54 when the Allen incident regarding his daughter Dylan blew up the child was only 7 or 8 years old. There was an extensive investigation undertaken by the Connecticut state police and prosecutors office and the child was interviewed by an army of psychologists and doctors. The child was an emotional wreck if reports are correct.
At the end of the day the state prosecutor made a public statement to the press that he had “probable cause” to prosecute Allen, but that he did not intent to proceed because of the “fragility of the child.” Mia Farrow had input into that decision. The final custody agreement only stated that his actions were “grossly inappropriate” and steps had to be taken to safeguard the child. Not sure what the agreement provided for in that regard. Ronan also supports his sister’s account based on his own personal observations.
As far as Mariel Hemingway is concerned I was unaware of any relationship besides a professional one with Allen. She rebuked his advances. She recounts in her book that she finished up a movie with him when she was 17 and he had been repeatedly telling her when they finished he was taking her to Paris. He flew his plane down to one of the Hemingway homes in Idaho for a week-end and she thought perhaps Paris was the next stop. She confronted him in the guest suite late at night and said " I am not going to have my own room in Paris am I?" Then she told him she wasn’t going. He left the next morning. Maybe you are referencing another incident.
@maya54 Kathleen Willey, too. She claims to have been sexually assaulted by Bill Clinton. That one too is “he said, she said,” and didn’t lead to an indictment.
Personally I found Kathleen Willey credible in her interviews. Unfortunately Linda Tripp’s testimony torpedoed any chance she had of prosecuting him. Linda Tripp testified that Willey was actively pursuing Clinton and often spoke to her of helping to arrange time alone with him.
I also find Kathleen Wiley credible. But it would be best if we leave out both Trump and Clinton out of our discussion…
^ I agree. Either both or neither.
Maybe Hollywood will make a “Spotlight” movie about itself. (Yeah, that’s sarcasm).
