Ah ok thanks. We’re making another trip so attempt round 2 lol
How was “this week in avoiding fast food from restaurants and bringing lunch from home,” @romanigypsyeyes?
Not bad. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday all food came from home. Wednesday was a pre arranged lunch date. Today, see below for why it was left over takeout.
I got into a car accident last night so needless to say we were not in the mood to cook. (Yes, I’m ok. I blew a tire on the freeway and was clipped by another car. That car didn’t stop but all my damage is superficial- just need a new bumper and tire obviously. Part of the tire ended up on top of my car which I didn’t think was physically possible.)
So glad you are ok, @romanigypsyeyes! And that the car is mostly ok.
Scary! I’m glad you’re okay!
Glad you are ok, romani…does your Costco have an auto dept? Ours is very competitive on tires…
Our Costco has Tasty Bites Vegetable Tikki Masala (big box with 6 or 8? individual pouches). Just microwave 90 seconds…It’s very delicious—H even likes.
Gosmom, not sure but I have my car back now. My mechanic (he’s been our family mechanic for literally decades lols) is looking for a bumper for me. He already replaced the tire.
I’ll have to add that to my list to find next time. I tried a new frozen mac & cheese that we cooked and then portioned for lunches. It’s really good. I’ll have to see how it tastes reheated.
Btw, don’t know if it was mentioned, but that onion soup claims vegetarian.
Glad it’s working out, so far. Sorry about the car, but good youre ok.
Phew! Glad it is just the car.
I second the tasty bite pouches. Our Costco also carries cooked rice/grain mixes in similar pouches. 1/2 of bean dish and 1/2 pouch of that rice dish make a very nice and quick main dish for lunch.
Is that Tikki Masala in the frozen foods? (sorry to interrupt the thread!) - is it a little spicy? (hoping, yes)
I like spicy.
I have to throw something else in- the roma tomatoes that I got there were seriously some of the best I’ve ever eaten in my life. They’re not flavorless like Meijer’s.
We’re going to make some salsa tonight. Mmmm…
Nectarines. How are there nectarines in stores? Nectarines are my favorite fruit but I thought they were out of season everywhere in the world right now.
CF - controlled atmosphere storage. And a few other tricks.
I think places on the west coast harvest certain varieties of nectarines as late as September.
Still have to use some tricks because rainy and/or cold weather conditions can wreck stone fruit.
Nectarines were AMAZING. I ate two before we got home. I don’t know how they’re here but I am grateful.
Mr R made salsa tonight (we had to supplement with a grocery store run). It’s really good.
It’s been in the mid-90s here. Unheard of for late September. I do wonder how it’s going to affect produce.
@abasket the tiki masala is in a box with pouches that you tear open and microwave. It’s near the boxed Seeds of Change Quinoa and Brown Rice pouches – also yummy.
I would not have bought had I not been able to taste test…does have a bit of a kick, but not over powering…
^^Thank you - that’s where I was thinking you guys were talking about but I couldn’t quite imagine Tiki Masala in that form…in a pouch, not refrigerated! Do you all add anything to it??? (and I do love the Seeds of Change products for a quick meal/side!)
- Tiki Masala--add nothing, just microwave and then dump in bowl.
- Seeds--I sometimes toss in leftover chicken or veggies after I zap it in the pouch. And possibly some teriyaki or bbq sauce depending on my mood.
I never heard of tiki masala, so I had to look it up. I believe it’s actually tikka masala. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever had it.
