2 Questions.

How many of you ever wake up in the middle of the night thinking about college?

How many of you had difficulty sleeping before an SAT administration.

Eh…3

Where can we get help?

sue the collegeboard for psycological distress

no, no, and no

get help? hm…get a healthy dose of perspective, then go for a run and think about going and seeing that one movie you’ve been hearing about for a while…whatever!

if your stressed, play cs. 100% guarantee you will learn better afterwards

lol CS owned my sophomore year

I’ll admit I was nervous the night before the SAT’s though that’s because I never prepared for it, so I was nervous about the unknown, but oh well, at least I don’t have to take them anymore. Though with your post I thought you were going to talk about apps killing all our time because I know for two weeks in December I was so cranky and pretty much snapped at any one in my way, but the week after it was back to roses and sunshine :D

it’s normal for people who care a lot

Come on dude everyone cares, I just relax and stay laid back because I put everything into proper perspective, you only live life once, its good to try to get the best education you can get, but don’t let it consume you life’s too short for that, just take it easy, do your best and you’ll do fine.

Bright day after even the darkest of nights my friend.

I didn’t have much to decimate.

You do need to keep in mind that this is just a few hours in your life. What ever the outcome, if you are a good student and you strive to do your best in everything you do, you will be a success in the big picture. I know the SAT and college is dominating your life right now–but it will pass. You will move on and do things that bring you deep personal satisfaction. SAT’s scores will actually be forgotten someday–it will just be something you survived a long time ago. If you focus too much on one thing you go cross eyed! I don’t attempt to say that the test is NOT important, but if you let it become the only thing in your life, it will make you miserable.

uggh … DOWN with CB =P

It is normal to have some stress, to be nervous before a test, to have occasional bad dreams about college apps, to be sad to think about leaving your family, etc.

It is NOT normal to feel like a test is taking over your life to the complete exclusion of other things that make you happy. It is NOT normal to lose sleep on a regular basis. It is NOT normal to feel like the pressure to get into the “right” college is taking over your life. If any of you fabulous folks are feeling any of these things, you need to talk to your parents, school counselor, clergy-person, therapist, etc, right away. These could be signs of depression, an anxiety disorder, or another treatable mental health problem.

I know most of you guys are just joking about totally normal (although unpleasant) levels of stress… but for anyone who’s really feeling miserable… there’s lots of help out there if you’re willing to seek it out.

:P Yeah, I can’t wait til senior fall is over and done with. I want to start playing Halo again. :(

dude quit wasting your time with halo. You can’t win any money with Halo. Start csing because they have the biggest cash pot prize in all the other games combined for LAN events.

I got pretty good at America’s Army, that’s the same engine as CS right? I might have to change my venue of pwnage.

No. CS uses steam.

Well, I haven’t taken the SAT yet–only practice tests–but I imagine I’d be praying and wishing the night before an SAT administration. I’d probably be doing some ritualistic stuff, too, like sleeping with the Blue Book under my pillow, falling asleep to Mozart, picking out “lucky-colored” clothes (including undergarments), etc. Just for the sake of my false “insurance”.

Uh. Live with it? I would just deal with it. IMO the suffering is worth the goal.

I think the problem is that everyone believes:

Good SAT scores lead to good college, which leads to good job, which leads to good life, or a money-filled one.

That said, #1 is true of myself.

Just know that SAT’s will not be the 1 st time in our lives in which we will face unsurmountable pressure and agonizing stress.

Imagine that your whole livelihood and that your career depends on a test.

Children in China only have ONE test (no GPA’s, EC’s, activities, sports, talents count) to determine where they will go for their ENTIRE LIVES. And in China it’s a LOT more competitive. And going ot community colleges is seen as an abominble shame. And the suicide rate is a lot higher.

I am not saying The SAT doesn’t impose a great deal of pressure for kids on America, but just realize that SAT really isn’t anything compared to what many other people have encountered, or to what we will encounter later in life- careers, promotions, jobs…ect.

Just deal with it and make the best you can out of it. Don’t complain b/c everyone suffers.

No one’s complaining, we’re just recognizing that it is a stressful test.
