Have Millennials killed Thank You Notes?

@FallGirl, that’s nice. I would hope my kids would do the same in the same situation, five minutes to show appreciation is really little to ask of anyone but certainly makes you smile and happy that you did it

Indeed. In fact, if I went by my personal experience, the millenials on average are actually far better about this issue than my generation(Gen X). And this came really hard for me as a child though I’ve gotten much better since*.

I received a very nice personalized thank you note for a wedding gift I sent to a friend and his now spouse.

I would have been happy with a verbal thank you as we’re close enough that a thank you note would be “too formal” in the context of our friendship.

  • I still have trouble remembering birthdays of close friends and up until recently even my own parents** as we don't regularly celebrate our birthdays. There's been some years when I forgot my own birthday in the days/weeks preceding it until parents/relatives/friends wished me a happy birthday.

** Thank goodness for FB reminders.

I was horrible at writing thank you notes, but my kids love to do them. My 22 year old daughter sometimes writes them with a cartridge pen and uses a wax seal. My son asked for correspondence cards for his birthday and actually uses them.

Have been pleased with my D & S, as they appear to do unprompted (after YEARS of nagging when they were younger). With her upcoming wedding, has kept on top of shower and wedding gift thank you’s, goal of within 5 days of receiving. She is very task oriented. Just hope she doesn’t plan on doing thank you’s on the honeymoon

I received three hand written thank you notes this weekend from middle school students for chaperoning an out of town trip and saw that they had written many more for their coaches and teacher. Sweet heart-felt notes.
