I saw a console table for my entry way that I like from Wayfair. I’ve never ordered furniture online before. Have you ever ordered from this company, and if so, what was your experience? Did the product arrive on time and in good condition? Did it truly resemble the photo? If you had to return it, was it a hassle and did Wayfair cooperate?
I’ve ordered small things from Wayfair. Good experience. I ordered a pedestal dining table from a different company (Ballard Design) and that was also a good experience. Haven’t had to return anything so don’t know how that might go.
I ordered a coffee table from Wayfair. It arrived on my front porch in a big box on time and in good condition. It was very well packed. A bit of assembly was required. The table resembles the photo, and I am satisfied with it. I also ordered a small area rug from them and had no problems.
I have ordered several items from Wayfair, and have been very pleased. The only problem I had (a glass top was missing from a patio set) was resolved quickly; they credited my account with more than enough $$ for me to order the glass locally.
My Wayfair tip: go on eBay, and you can buy “instant download” coupons for 10% off your purchase.
I ordered a console table recently with good results. Quick delivery and well packed. I haven’t had to make a return. I have ordered furniture from Overstock and been very happy. Recently bought 8 bar stools there and got the best price and very fast. The only thing I have found is that Wayfair doesn’t always have the best prices. Once I find something there I always do a price comparison including shipping.
Now I’ve just seen another one I really like at Pottery Barn. Of course, more expensive, but I think the dimensions might be better. Pottery Barn has a beautiful mirror I’ve admired for several years now. I was thinking of buying it, but the current piece in that space is narrower than the mirror, so it would look awkward.
I’ve ordered smaller items and have had very good experience. On one occasion I ordered a lighted makeup mirror that was described as cordless and requiring batteries. When it arrived, it had a standard electric cord which wouldn’t work in my situation. Customer service was great and returning the mirror was very easy.
My friend ordered all the rugs for her second home from Wayfair and absolutely loves them.
I have had two experiences with Wayfair. I ordered two barstools that required some assembly. They arrived on time and well packed, but when I assembled the second one, it was wobbly and I couldn’t get it to stabilize. They sent me a replacement with no hassle and without requiring a return of the bad stool. The replacement is perfect.
I also got a gift of monogramed copper mugs. They were all individually packaged, but one was a bit dinged up inside the package. I called, and again they sent a replacement without requiring a return.
The quality may not always be the best but I’d say on par with most retailers in this price range, and I couldn’t ask for anything more from customer service.
I do most shopping online and have ordered from Wayfair quite a few times. One piece of furniture was not as described, so I called and they requested a UPS call tag. The refund was processed promptly. An end table and an accent table in our hearth room came from Wayfair, as did some lamps and patio furniture.
Wayfair and Overstock have both dealt well with returns. It’s a bit of hassle to repackage a piece of furniture for return shipping, but as long as dh is here to move it to the porch for pick up it’s not a big deal. On smaller items I find that online stores will ask me to take the package to UPS instead of requesting a call tag, but if I let them know it’s not possible they’re usually good about handling the return. It’s different if I just change my mind, but if the item is defective or was damaged in transit, then I expect the retailer to handle the return. Once Overstock told me that if a table and chairs were not picked up within 10 days then I should dispose of them.
I appreciate that Overstock and Wayfair provide Country of Origin information on many of the items they sell, and wish that Amazon would do that also.
i dont know about shipping costs for large pieces. returning those would be a hassle for sure. I think you can chat with them or look around at FAQ; unless theres a flaw in the product, i think you pay to ship it back.
the only thing we ordered from wayfair we returned as i didnt like it; we had to pay for shipping back to wayfair.
and on overstock; we had to pay for shipping too on 4 barstools that we returned. Ouch! that hurt. I can remember returning a large rug once that they paid for shipping returns (maybe 6 years ago) - shipping would have been 80$ on it!
my thoughts: check out the return shipping policies if you arent sure
Wayfair permits return of non-clearance items within 30 days of receipt. Clearance items can only be returned if damaged or defective. I don’t know about return shipping cost, but my guess is for something as heavy as a chair you might be facing a freight bill of >$100 based on comments I’ve read from customers on other retail sites. You might be able to get an estimate from a shipping company if you provide the weight and dimensions of the item.
The one time I was unhappy with a furniture purchase (nothing wrong with it, I failed to confirm a measurement), I just donated it instead of paying to return it.
I ordered from them three times (all for my kid’s apartments). Twice the item came quickly and was as pictured – no problems at all. One time I ordered an inexpensive clearance item (picture frame that held multiple photos) which arrived damaged and they refunded the price and told me to not bother sending the item back (we tossed it). Would use them again.
Ordered a sideboard from Wayfair that was color sensitive but they didn’t have a wood sample. I was able to have them agree to waive the return shipping/restocking fee if it didn’t work out.
Turns out I love the piece and kept it.
I ordered a desk chair from Wayfair. Assembly required. I had no trouble assembling it, but when I got it assembled, I discovered that the lowest seat setting was a little too high for me. It would not have been practical to have returned the chair at that point because it could not be disassembled. But I couldn’t have discovered the problem earlier.
Lesson learned. There are some things you simply shouldn’t order online.
