Have you hugged your son today?

jd,
Is there a victim’s rights advocate in your county/city? It sounds like the cops are all too willing to label this as buddies getting drunk and messing around. Have they done anything about the cell phone lead? The detectives should be on HIS side here.

Did this really happen that close to a jurisdictional line?

Does S remember where he woke up? Might there be any personal effects or evidence there?

(sorry – spouse of litigator here – have learned to ask the detailed Qs)

Here’s an idea, go pick the b@$tages up by pinging his cell phone Friday night and ask THEM what the motive was?

Oh man, am I ticked for you, do I watch the First 48?, yes, and those are real police departments and they don’t behave like this.

This possible blame the victim thing and technicalities thing is BS. Are they this incompetent REALLY or are they dragging their feet for some other reason? What an outrage!

S gave the detectives his phone records and is quite frustrated.

He told me thay just need to do their job…there are (for better or worse) numerous security cameras all along the location of what turned out to be an abduction…and that he had already spoken to an alleged perp over the weekend…and had his address!

smacks of detectives who are looking to dump the case over to another county…and meanwhile i’m sure the moving boxes have been taped and the only identified link may well be severed.

i am very upset by this turn of events (or lack of turn as it goes…)

I would get contact a city council member, city manager, state congressman and the state attorney general and forward this pathetic example of an excuse to not file charges to them.

^^ Counting Down

S does not remember exact location where he woke up…he remembers stumbling/walking in blood soaked clothes and wearing one shoe for what he thought was at least a mile before he found the minimarket…i know the area…and it is very possible that he was attacked in one county and he walked into another for help.

but *** does that matter?

detectives clearly want to blow this off as a bar fight…but it is not.

it was attempted murder. the military teaches people how to kill others by smashing their noses into their brain…S was but a hairs width from that same fate.

Or worse yet blame the victim???

Abduction? Did they involuntarily transport your S to the scene of the crime? Possibly sounds like kidnapping - a federal offense? Heck with the locals, get the feds. Plus the penalty is steeper.

Good idea, goaliedad, yes, call the feds. If they are worried about jurisdiction, let the feds come in and start eyeballing their investigation (or lack there of), and see what the locals have to say about that.

Has there been any press coverage of the assault in the area newspaper? If not, what about calling the newspaper to bring this to the public’s eye? This could put pressure on the police department to step up the investigation.

Not if the prosecutor is determined to do the right thing.

How is S out of the hospital already and able to accompany detectives to the crime scene? I would have loudly demanded that he remain in the hospital for a number of days, since there is much to monitor after such a serious operation. Even if he were released, he would be in so much pain and misery, I would expect that he would be bed bound for a week.

A friend of mine had much more minor facial surgery (due to a bike accident), and was in the hospital for two days, so that they could monitor bleeding, headaches, general pain, etc. How on earth would they already have released your son, whose entire face was smashed in? I would be screaming to high heaven for better medical care.

I don’t want the papers involved…neither does S.

While I understand the pressure the press can bear…that pressure works both ways.

I am going to take a step back now and let my mind clear.

A trip to the PD w/ lawyer in tow is next. Please forgive me if I forgo releasing anymore details about the actual attack…I fear I have released too much already.

I will keep the board updated as to healing progress/graduation etc…but legal details I feel need to be restricted…at least for now.

please understand.

you are all good folks…this much I know.

I know a teeny bit of what you are going through. When our car was stolen out of our driveway, out of a gated community, the police did not believe that my H left the keys in the car and someone stole it. (This was 12 years ago, and yes we lock everything up now.) Then 2 days later when the car was located, abandoned in a bar parking lot (and damaged from an encounter with a mailbox), they accused him of getting drunk, banging up the car, and abandoning it. They did a cursory look over, and called him to come get the car. When we arrived at the scene, the police were long gone. There on the dash were a pack of cigarettes and a lighter that were not his. And there were butts. We carefully used tweezers to lift the items and put them into a plastic bag. The police were not interested in trying to lift fingerprints, or DNA etc. It was not until we found out about two other car thefts from the neighborhood (one before ours and one after–that one driven out of the garage) that the police decided to come by for the evidence. They found the kid a few days later, driving a car without his lights on in the neighborhood, leaving with another car. (He was a member of a lawn care company and was coming back into the neighborhood and stealing cars mostly for joy rides and to use to go get drunk).

That was just a car. I cannot believe that they are treating this incident with your son similarly. I think you should hire the PI. I’ll bet in a few hours he can find out more info than the police are willing to in a few weeks. And as your S starts to have a few flashes of memory about the incident, be sure he writes it down. Things will come and go in his mind’e eye over the next few weeks.

And the perps will pay. If not here and now, later. Karma, higher power, God…one way are another there will be hell to pay.

Is there a possibility that this was a hate crime? If so, you may wish to involve the state’s attorney.

Everyone here will respect your wish to keep the details under wraps. It’s probably a very smart move.

jdjaguar…mother of two boys graduating this month from HS and college just like you. God Bless You and your wife and sons, and an extra prayer of praise for the caring, disciplined humane people who took care of your son’s physical needs. It is so hard when one is struck with outright evil in this world. It does alter your sense of safety and puts you on shakey ground for a while, but keep your eyes on the beautiful people in your family and on those who came to your son’s aid.
We all understand that you have every reason to post carefully on this board since of course you don’t want to jeapordize anything legally and you are in murky territory as you explore what your options are to get bring these evil people to justice.
Please as you gather your wits and wisdom from those you confer with in the coming days, make sure to talk to someone in the victim advocacy profession. To get the proper amount of due diligence in prosecution, you must present as someone who expects everyone to fulfill their duties to the utmost and you must persevere in a world where we are all only human and many people in the justice profession have ridiculous caseloads and burnout.
May all the right people step up now both in the healing professions and in the professions which maintain order and safety and uphold the laws of this land.

Bless your boy most of all, may his youth, intelligence, good upbringing, soulfulness and circle of support bear him up and through this whatever it takes to put this random act of malice finally into his past, and may he have a future where somehow he can convert this horrifying chapter in your family’s life into something that only makes him stronger.

Oh, my!

Perhaps you can get an advocate, you can also get a news item in the paper (without dumping on the detectives). It might light a fire under their butts. It does not sound as if they are used to working much if they take the weekend off and try to shift the whole thing to another county.

EDIT: I had not read the newest posts before writing. You know the situation best.
I am also concerned that if your son knows who the perps are thanks to his cell phone, they, too, may know who he is. Be extra careful–all of you.

I am so sorry…Have you considered contacting the criminal division of your Attorney General’s office, the FBI, State Police and any other law enforcement office that could bring pressure to bear. I would also not hesitate to contact your state representatives if necessary. These perps must be arrested, jailed and locked up as punishment and protection, can’t imagine what else they are capable of.

I’ll stay away from the legalities, per your request JD, but “frustrated” is probably WAY too mild a term for how you’re feeling.

Glad to hear your son is doing well enough to return to the scene(s) of the crime and talk to police. Sounds like he’s a strong kid. And yay for the rock-strong GF helping out, and the younger S’s GF with the brownies… yummm.

We’re still thinking of you. As for the perps & police, if needed I’m sure the CC mob with torches and pitchforks can be quickly assembled!

"i know the area…and it is very possible that he was attacked in one county and he walked into another for help.

but *** does that matter?"
NO, it will not matter to someone at the state level who is not trying to protect his local turf or ass or whatever!!

“As for the perps & police, if needed I’m sure the CC mob with torches and pitchforks can be quickly assembled” Yes!! A call to arms!! watch out perps! your ass is ours!!

Praying for your son and your family for continued emotional and physical healing. Praying for justice, too.
