Have you hugged your son today?

I agree with jd that news coverage of the attack is not a good idea. There are other ways to put pressure on the police, many good suggestions here.

It does sound as if the detectives are doing everything possible to avoid having to work on this case (like sunnyflorida’s experience). It is outrageous that they are not taking this seriously.

I am so happy that your son is well enough to be out of the hospital! But I hope that he is spending most of his time resting. Even young, strong bodies need time to heal.

so happy to hear S is doing better physically. I can not even comprehend the anger he must be feeling! considering what we on cc are feeling.

a peaceful evening for you all.

It doesn’t matter. My husband is a lawyer and he says this jurisdiction nonsense is just that. Can you imagine if crimes were only prosecuted if all events and people were within a county or city? Imagine if you were a criminal? Oh, I think I’ll just go into the next county and rob a bank and then return back to my county cuz they won’t be able to touch me then. Police work across county lines all the time to catch criminals.

I have a little experience with this county jurisdiction thing: it simply requires the cooperation of the investigators from each county. Also, crimes of this magnitude often aren’t handled at the county level (depends on the state), but quickly move to district level, making the county crap irrelevant.

Reiterating advice of others on CC: Hopefully there is a victims’ rights advocate, police ombudsman, or other person in the county/region who is responsible for making sure you are being heard. Keep pushing. The system is flawed- I’m not generally a cynic, but have seen a little too much.

good morning jd, hope family had a restful evening. Do not give up on the judicial process, also important for your S to know you have faith in the right thing being done. I realize this may take infinite patience. find your advocate within the system, could even be an assistant in the prosecutors office( this worked for us) pm if you would like more detailed info.

enjoy all the plans you are making as a family, and just keep hugging those children.

Thinking of your family and hoping for continued health improvements. The cruise reservation is a wonderful positive plan. Some days will be up and some days will be down between now and then but you will have that and your wonderful family time to look forward to.

jdj

First of all, you and your family have been in our thoughts and prayers since I first read about this outrageous act.

Since I am not sure of all the facts I apologize if I am making any incorrect comments here. Is your son away at school? If this is the case, sadly too many cases like this get swept under the rug when a student is away from home and the local PD doesn’t feel the political pressure to take care of “one its own.”

When I was in college I returned from Thanksgiving break to find that my apartment had been broken into, burglarized and vandalized. My home and family were three states and 500 plus miles away. The police came, did a cursory interview and I honestly felt that I was being blown off while feeling so alone and personally violated.

I had gotten to be friends with the English Dept Chair and the next day when I told him about what had happened, he became very concerned fearing that they (big city PD) wouldn’t get too involved in the matter. He made a few calls including to the President of the University who then contacted someone at the PD. Before I knew it I had the Crime Lab dusting for fingerprints, undercover officers at our basketball game that Saturday night because they had also stolen my season tickets etc. Finally someone was really on the case and trying to work on my behalf.

I only mention this because perhaps you or your son can get the university involved or a professor/mentor/coach that he might have developed a relationship with. Having an on the scene local advocate certainly can’t hurt and the university wouldn’t want the adverse publicity in these trying admission times either. Pressure needs to be put on the PD to treat this as if they were looking after the Mayor’s kid.

My best you your son and to your family; you will remain in our thoughts and prayers.

Update…

no update…you were right about up and down…

i am so ANGERED!

No update from here, either. Just letting you know that you are not alone (online, anyway.) Feel free to vent without details. Whatever helps.

Wish I has some clever thing to say, besides ‘best wishes to you you and family’.

I am so sorry.

Don’t let the perps take more from you now. Rest when you can . Focus on your family’s well being and upcoming wonderful plans.

I am glad you can vent here. I am so, so sorry that you have to endure this and the aftermath.

I have never met your son, and just hearing how little is being done I am so angered. Your son has been thru a horrible attack and the PD needs to treat it as such.

jdjaguar, ups and downs are part of the healing process. Downs let you know you are pushing too hard and it is time to rest more. He has had a traumatic injury. It would be wonderful if everyday was better than the last but it just doesn’t work that way. Have faith that the good work the doctors did means that the downs will get less and the ups will surpass them regularly. The path will trend up.

You and your family stay in our thoughts and prayers. Come here to rant as often as you wish. Writing it out may help. We are here for you.

jdjaguar…you don’t have to be anything but angry and hurt. No one here expects you to have any resolution or to have passed into any state of grace or peace or acceptance or to have a sense of restoration or trust on any timetable whatsoever. Everything in you-- we can only guess… rises up to protest this horrible injustice.

We are strangers, but everyone here reads and posts with you as fellow parents, and we read about your son’s being so randomly and unjustly abused at the hands of deranged individuals and we feel a deeply visceral response, a deep angry protest on your behalf and on your son’s behalf.

I am praying for people full of light and strong, right spirits to be around you and your loved ones as he recovers.

Faline, you expressed my thoughts and feelings perfectly.

jdjaguar, we are all thinking of you and your family.

Just spoke w/ S.

Profs emailed tests in lieu of group presentation final.

He is planning on taking one today and the other tomorrow.

He feels he should be good to go for graduation next friday.

He also said GF’s cousin works in adjoining jurisdiction PD and the
detective is getting mad about all the phone calls he’s getting asking
why he isn’t doing anything.

good.

maybe he’ll get off his a#&.

College graduation is less than ONE WEEK away!

((Hugs))

Jdjaguar, It sounds as if others are working on lighting a fire under the police. Good! Now you forget it for the next week.

Your son’s college graduation (and youngest son’s HS graduation) is a precious time for your family, even more so now that you came so close to not having it. Put all your mental and emotional energy into this never-to-come-again time. Don’t let the thugs take any part of it from you.

And if the fire doesn’t get lit, just post that detective’s phone number here! Then he"ll REALLY have concerned people telling him to get off his A#$!!!

Agreed with the others. Now is the time for your family to be focused on each other. Lots of good thoughts still headed your way!!!

The thing is that they may need to get a phone call from someone who they “fear” in order to get things going–lawyer, college president, political figure, or press.

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear that the detective is feeling a bit of pressure.

Virtual hugs and congratulations to all of the graduates at your house. And the GF’s of course.

Hope you all have a relaxing weekend. Hope you can focus on the graduation excitement. Cheers!
