Having a bad basketball week

My 'Heels are just falling apart and now our high school ladies just lost the 5A State Championship game … :frowning: What a bad b-ball week. Thank goodness for those Lady Tar Heels.

We love our hoops in our house. Sorry your teams aren’t doing as well as you’d like. Senior D’s high school team had their best year in a number of years (which isn’t really saying a lot, but we’re pleased with the team and especially D’s improvement).

I love March Madness!

I’m so sad…the h.s. girls were ranked number one in the state.
Two of ldgirl’s closest friends were on the team last year and one of her friend’s younger sibling is a current teammate. AND my son’s school principal has two daughters who are both starters. So with all these personal connections, I was just really hoping for a win tonight!

Ah well…they played extremely well and have very bright futures.

ldmom~

I’m sorry to hear about your high school ladies teams! It would have been so much fun to see all of those you and your D feel so connected to pull it out sigh. {{{{hugs}}}} I’m glad that they played well, though, and I wish them all the best in their futures!

Now, about your 'Heels…well, I’ll be thinking of you tomorrow as DUKE takes 'em to task!  (Hope I don’t have to end up eating those words!!)

~berurah

You and me both berurah. I took our loss to Maryland especially hard the other night after sending in an enrollment deposit for S2 to College Park.

S2 didn’t even want to go to school the day after! He’s convinced that Duke lost 'cause his social studies teacher watched the game and jinxed them…ROFL 'Course he also thinks I’m a jinx 'cause every time I walk in the room, Duke starts crashing! ~berurah

My husband and I are both convinced I’m the jinx in the house…so I just pass through the room for a score update and if I linger too longer my husband shoos me out! Not saying one word about the score at this minute, because my beloved 'Heels have been known to blow a lead or two.

I can deal with Maryland…the team and coach that makes me so mad is VaTech. That whole ‘fake injury to put the 100% shooter on the foul line and if that doesn’t work we’ll try a flagrant foul’ strategy infuriated me.

B - Strangely I don’t really feel animosity/rivalry toward Duke. What the school has been through this last year has really taken the fun out of that for me. But…ldgirl is getting a real kick out of the whole thing since her buddies are freshmen at Duke…lol!

All in good fun, all in good fun. ;)

OMG, ROFL Glad it’s not just me! S2 is the one who’s convinced I’m a jinx! But, glad to say, I’ve stayed out of the room for this one, so he kicked his little brother out about ten minutes ago! lol

I’d have to concur with you here. Everything above is definitely within the bounds of good fun. I have nothing but the utmost respect for UNC…some of the nicest people I know go there! :)

~b.

omgosh…that was just some nasty business! I’m in shock…they’re saying Tyler’s nose looks broken and he may be in a mask for tournament. What a shame. :(

ldmom~

OMG, I was really sorry to see that…sigh I hope Tyler’s o.k., I really do. My own son has gotten his nose broken twice in pick-up football games, and it’s horrible. :(

I’m with idmom on really feeling for the Duke athletes on what their compadre have been through. Although I have always loved Coach K anyway*. I’m headed down to a LAX game at Hopkins next month. I chose the Duke game. I think I’ll just root for both teams ;).

don’t tell my brother; he and both of his kids are Terps, as are practically everyone I grew up with

Bless his heart…I think the worst part for Tyler was not getting to finish the game. But if the nose is broken, it will be tough to get practice time in before the ACC tournament.

Hey…just realized Lady Tar Heels won their ACC tournament! For some reason, we didn’t get the game here in Houston! Alright Lady 'Heels!

Update - the nose isn’t broken…just looks like a pretty decent cut and a bloodied nose. Yea! ‘All’s well …’

^^just heard this too…thank goodness! Although I’m sure it hurts like it IS broken right now. Poor kid… sigh

I’m perturbed by the Coach K’s comments. Normally have respect for the guy’s record; but sheeeesh was it necessary for him to imply Tyler wouldn’t have been injured if Coach Roy had not left him in the game?

Not cool. The kids (players) seem way better about the whole situation than the adults. You could tell the Duke players felt badly, several gave Coach Roy a hug in the handshake line.

<a href=“In a battle of image, Duke takes black eye - ESPN”>http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&id=2787890&sportCat=ncb

ldgirl and the Freshman Council were hosting a UNC/Duke viewing party for the Freshman Class at the EndZone. Haven’t heard a word from her. I hope everyone has settled down over there.

Glad TH is ok, but I don’t think Henderson had any intent to do harm–suspending him for the first game of the ACC tournament is wrong. All the CBS announcers thought it was a bad decision as well. None of them thought that it was “combative”. And they were questioning why TH was still in the game when Roy had pretty much emptied his bench to let kids play, and there were only seconds left in a game that was already finished.

S1 and his roomie were lucky Dukies to be at the game, and said the most exciting part was when Duke got within 2 during the second half!!

I am the superstitious basketball (and football) fan at our house–I am constantly wringing my hands and getting nervous about everything that’s going wrong for S1’s or D’s teams!! When they play each other, it’s awful!! It’s possible that will happen for the 3rd time this season during the tournament this week.

March Madness–gotta love it!!!

I disagree irish…the article I posted said it best. Henderson went in with the intent of fouling Tyler hard…perhaps not drawing blood…but with the intent to hard foul nevertheless. It’s done all the time. BUT, the risk you run when you do that is you may injure someone. And the price for that is ejection and suspension. That should happen to ANYONE who did what Henderson did.

Additionally, the ball wasn’t even in Hansbrough’s control when Henderson made contact with him and the arm motion wasn’t that of someone intending to tip the ball away, it was the motion of someone going in for the foul to stop the clock.

If the consequences were not ejection/suspension, the game would become bloodsport.

ITA, irish. Totally. The suspension was a bad decision. ~berurah

I’m not faulting Henderson for intent, but there is a reason for severe penalties for severe actions…to remind these guys to keep the game in check. It’s rough enough as it is out there.

btw…ESPN is now saying it was a good call.

ldmom, I saw the H.S. game. It was a goodun’. Y’all played well. Your girls gave it all they had.
