omgosh curmudgeon! Our Lady Bobcats are so talented and I’m so proud of 'em. We had to listen to it on tsrnsports.com cuz for some brilliant reason, not one Houston affiliate saw reason to carry it…nor did TimeWarner bother to drop the game in on any cable channel! I’m sure the stands were full of ldgirl’s friends though since most are at Texas now.

What did ya think of the O sisters? Their mom is the principal of my son’s school (and was ldgirls fave middle school principal too). Aren’t they something?

Everyone to their own opinion, but I thought Forde’s article was over the top, calling Duke dirty. They played one of their fastest games all year& they were trying to play with the intensity that people have said they don’t have, and they did it without fresh legs every five minutes. UNC has a very deep team this year, and they substitute constantly. That works in their favor, and they should take advantage of it like they have in most of their games. They are lucky to have the talent and the depth. But Duke did not play a dirty game, and that is not the way K coaches. The CBS announcers were calling it as they were watching it, and reviewing the tapes–ESPN did not broadcast the game. That’s my take on the situation–and I have watched almost every Duke game this season–jmho.

Even if you don’t want to admit the play was unseemly, the comments by Coach K after the game certainly were. He criticized Coach Roy for having Tyler in for mopup which is incredible. Duke had two starters in themselves AND Paulus and McRoberts, also two starters, had just fouled out with less than 20 seconds in the game! AND the only reason Tyler was in the game was because McRoberts’ last foul was on Tyler CAUSING him stay in the game for free throws. Tyler’s sub was at the scorers’ table, but couldn’t come in because of McRoberts’ foul. That plus the fact that Coach K was still calling timeouts, doesn’t indicate mopup time to me. Or does Coach K expect other teams to put their second string in while he plays starters until the end?? I’ve lost all respect for the guy because of this. Yes he’s good coach, but so what if you have attitude when you lose.

Also, today in looking at the tape, I’ve come to the conclusion Henderson was deliberately fouling Hansbrough. I don’t think he intended to hurt him as badly as he did, but he intended to foul him hard.

Here’s a link to the foul…ouch. It’s happens about 35 seconds into the video. (I’m a UVA mom, so I was pulling for the triple upset this weekend of VT, BC, and UNC after UVA’s loss at Wake Forest. UNC just didn’t want to cooperate).

omg, ldmom, during the UVA/Wake Forest game, my husband (who NEVER followed basketball or televised sports to any real degree until our son started UVA this year) was yelling so loud, I had to shush him. I was sure our neighbors would be able to hear him and think he was yelling like that at our kids.

I found the most hilarious youtube. A clip from the Roy show of Tyler and Bobby Frasor playing what they call ‘Texas’ Ping Pong. Omg…my husband and I are rolling on the floor. Boys!!! lol! This is exactly what my brothers would do to each other for grins.

It’s about half-way through the clip. (Starts at about 2:25)

ldmom06~we’ll just have to agree to disagree. Henderson has not played dirty all year, and he is not a starter. K said maybe he should not have been on the floor, either, but he doesn’t have as deep a bench as Roy does–and he did have walk-ons playing at that point. Henderson did not intend to hit Tyler. Also, as I said, the CBS announcers were questioning why Roy would have Tyler out there with 14 seconds left on the clock. Coach K has not coached his players to be dirty, and one comment (already made by others) does not make me lose respect for a coach, whoever that coach may be. I’ve heard plenty of comments from plenty of coaches, and this one doesn’t even come close to being rude when you’re in a press conference for a long time with people yelling questions at you and accusing your player of flagrant behavior.

Anyway, I have already praised UNC for their season, and said they were a talented and deep team. It’s not like I have insulted the team or its coach. That’s the way I saw the play, and I did see replay after replay while the refs were trying to make a decision. The CBS commentators thought it was unintential also. I’m glad Tyler is ok.

While true, this is somewhat misleading. Henderson logged 30 minutes of playing time in the game, 14 more than one of the ?starters?. I would agree that he does not have history of playing ?dirty?.

I hope you are not suggesting that Duke had walk-ons on the court, unless you want to consider DeMarcus Nelson, John Sheyer and Gerald Henderson walk-ons. Carolina did have walk-ons on the court and Hansbrough was only still on the court because he was fouled and sent to the free throw line.

In my opinion the effort to shift the blame to the victim (or his coach) is somewhat disingenuous. Perhaps neither team should have had any starters in at that point in the game. That is certainly debatable. However, Duke still had it best five remaining players on the court and had been calling time-outs and committing fouls trying to extend the game. Is the coach saying that Duke can play hard and keep its best players in the game but that Carolina should not, or is he admitting to a lack of leadership on his part in failing to pull his best players and throwing in the towel? I feel sure that some of the players on the bench would have loved to have gotten into the game for a minute or two, particularly in this rivalry.

Henderson may not have intended to do physical harm to Tyler. However, you must be wearing a very dark blue shade of glasses to come to the conclusion that he did not intend to ?hit? him. He very obviously intended to foul Tyler. Maybe he intended to hit him as hard as he did and maybe he didn?t. Only Henderson knows the answer to that.

I don?t think the one play makes Henderson a ?dirty? player or Duke a ?dirty? team. However, whatever Henderson?s intent the refs ruled to contact to be excessive, making it a ?flagrant? foul. The mandatory punishment for a flagrant foul is expulsion and a one game suspension. I will go with the judgment of the refs on the floor more than that of a TV commenter.

^Not to mention it was just ONE CBS commentator, Bobby Packer, going out on a very shaky limb to call the officiating bad. The other commentators were either silent or sounded extremely uncomfortable with Packer’s nonsense.

Henderson is Coach K’s number 6 and he did play more than Duke’s traditional starters. Until the last 20 seconds, 4of Duke’s 5 starters were still in the game.

I don’t get it either. Is there some unwritten rule that Duke can’t be embarrassed and that all other teams, when they have established the win, must back off so that Coach K and team can have their dignity? What is Coach Roy to do when K is calling timeouts and fouling players until the bitter end.

I think I would feel better about the situation if Henderson would have reached down to offer Tyler a hand or expressed remorse while still on the court. It was just a few games ago that I watched Tyler get legs tangled with an opposing player causing both to stumble. Tyler patted the guy on the back as if no hard feelings. Something along those lines would have been appropriate and diffused a bad situation.

I agree with tyr above…doesn’t matter who the players are during the commission of the foul (starters or scrubs)…once the refs determined it to be a flagrant foul, then the consequences are predetermined, i.e. explusion and suspension.

ldmom, do your kids go to Cyfair? The first game of our football season was against ya’ll at your new Barry Stadium. It is unbelievably beautiful! My s was one of the unfortunate middle linebackers who had to try to stop Sam McGuffie! Luckily, he didn’t get jumped over so he didn’t make a youtube clip…

Our lady Spartans went up against your girls in volleyball, including the “O” sisters, we came out on top in that one, but those two girls were amazing! It is impressive that they are equally, if not more, amazing in basketball. Where is the older sis going to play in college?

btw, our first game next season (football) is against ya’ll as well, should be interesting - ya’ll have McGuffie - top football prospect @ running back, we have Luck - top football quarterback prospect. Should be a lot of offense!!! I’ll just be glad that I can watch without my stomach in knots (no dog in the hunt).

yes ag!! We are back to Cy-Fair. Long story short…ldgirl graduated from Cy-Fair, the following year we were zoned to new Cy-Woods, then last month sent back to Cy-Fair. (People around here are IRATE, but I don’t care…love the Bobcats! lol!)

Isn’t McGuffie something!! He’s a good friend of our baseball neighbor’s son, who just gave up football to focus on baseball. (The neighbor’s son is top pick in his position being recruited by UNC, Rice, both Arizonas, Texas, etc…) I hear Sam wants Michigan, but may end up in Texas. I’m sure he’ll have a lot of choices.

Regarding the O sisters…they are fantastic too. I’m not sure where the older O has decided to go. I need to talk to my basketball neighbor; his daughters were/are both Lady Bobcats too and he keeps us up to date on the ladies’ recruiting. Their mom is the nicest lady…wonderful principal. (She loved ldgirl back in the day, and visa versa.)

I’m betting your guys have figured out by now how not to let Sam hurdle them…huh? lol! I’m sure not too many players are gonna let him get over them after the youtube thing.

As I’ve already said, we will all have our own opinions. And…Henderson did not have the opportunity to give Tyler a hand up, or a pat on the back. TH was furious (and that was understandable as he was in pain, and didn’t know how it all happened) so he was held back by teammates and escorted to the locker room.) Henderson was never able to see him to let him no he did not mean to hurt him. I hope they have a chance to clear the air. Both coaches behaved quite well while the refs were in conference, and after the decision had been made–and so did all the players. That reflects well on both programs. I’ve seen many games where the coaches go nuts and get a “T” on top of everything else.

On to the tournament–where quite clearly it’s anyone’s game!

I don’t know if anyone can learn how to keep from being hurdled by McGuffie ;). Maybe stand a little taller!!

You’re right, McGuffie has already been offered at many schools. It’s really incredible when the recruiting thing heats up! My s is a “coach assistant” during the freshman football period this semester and he is amazed at the revolving door of coaches who are coming to take a look at Luck. My son is hoping that Luck commits to UT (but I think his top choice right now is Stanford, because of their engineering program).

I read that McGuffie had been offered Florida also. I’d be happy with him either being a Longhorn or a Gator :)

ag - Stratford right? Sounds like Luck is academically gifted as well as athletically (is this a word?) gifted if he is looking at Stanford for engineering. Wonder if he is related to our Lucks. One of ldgirl’s NMF compadres is a Luck. Younger brother is a smarty too.
