Having a bad basketball week

irish - even the sports pundits are saying Henderson’s behavior (walking away after the hit) makes one wonder if it wasn’t intentional.

btw…I think Tyler knew exactly what happened and that is why is was angry. ‘Elbows’ are pretty standard…especially with the big boys in the NBA.

Well…looks like the nose IS broken and Tyler may be in a mask for the tournament. :(

ldmom, no worries. The mudgette had 10 teeth knocked loose (four completely dislodged) by a perfect storm elbow and played in a mask all summer and fall one year. She still plays in a $400 custom molded mouthpiece made by the Baylor girl’s dentist.

Yes, Luck is academically gifted, he is ranked at the top of the junior class. He is really kind of a nerdy guy, but just a gifted athlete as well. His dad was a quarterback for the Oilers, but before that, a Rhodes Scholar, so he comes by it naturally. (Not sure if they have Luck relatives up your way, but maybe)

It’s funny because the kids always tease him about playing in the NFL, and he turns red and says, “No, I’m not good enough for that, I’m going to be an engineer.” He’s a great kid - humble, sweet and a terrific leader. He’ll be a huge asset to any school he ends up at.

And, yes, we’re Stratford, Go Spartans!! :)

ag54, Oliver Luck’s kid? Cool.

curmudgeon…I was just laughing to myself after my last post thinking how the GIRLS tend to make the boys look tame when it comes to rough stuff. I guess your d proves it so! ;)

I still think it was intentional. The ball was gone by the time his arm came down, and it was too long after that for him to just be trying to stop his momentum (in addition, if he was trying to stop his momentum at the time, how did he still hit hard enough to break Hans’s nose?)

And y’all have the Deacs to thank for your #1 seed. That game was rockin’ on Saturday…it was like old times. And we got out of the basement for the tourney! Hooray!

Yep, Oliver’s kid… He’s an amazing quarterback! 6’ 4", 200 lbs, fast, laser precision throwing - a real gem.

He led our team to its first district championship (undefeated) since the 70’s. My son was lucky to be a senior this year!!! :)

And, when I say undefeated, I mean in district - our two losses were: the first game against team McGuffie -ie ldmom’s Bobcats - who were amazing! And, our last loss, in Reliant Stadium agains CyFalls - 34-33, we missed the extra point with less than a minute to tie it up!

Incredible season!

There is no place tougher to play than the post in Texas girls basketball. They were banging the other night in y’alls game. My kid is barely 5’11 and weighed between 146 and 159 (usually about 149 by season’s end) her entire playing career and she was a 4 year starter. At the 5. She lifted and lifted and that’s all we could get on her. Her head was perfect elbow reachable height to the 6’3 210 girls even when she was standing straight up!

We had much taller girls but nobody could beat her out to move her to the 4 (her natural position and where she would have played D3). She just learned how to muscle and push with her lower body and she could hit you in the back with a short forearm so hard if you tried to get a seal on her that it would send tingles down your spine. That and her willingness to crowd you (hence the constant busted lips and loose teeth) helped her stay on the floor. It also helped her set possibly a career record for fouls. She also drew a bunch of charges, even more that weren’t called. (She’d have never got that call against Ogwulmike that fouled O out. That would have been a block. LOL. )

You gotta have guts to play the 5 in Texas and take on all comers.

cur - we could probably use her on our football team ;)

ag54, LOL. She had the mean. Just don’t think the feet would have been there. Not the best wheel speed on top end. She could run at full speed all game and did. It just wasn’t that fast. ;)

Here is some amazing Sam McGuffie footage

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4IJ17ODo_s

and some amazing Andrew Luck footage:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eq1X6y7PJ9Q

hope those links work (the sam one is kind of long, the andrew one is just one play at our homecoming game)

Funny thing about the Andrew clip - he lost both shoes as he was spinning to evade the tacklers - thus the shoeless quarterback moniker.

Also, it was just before 1/2 time, so the homecoming nominees are down on the sidelines jumping up and down in their long dresses. Hee :)

I’ll have to trust your play by play. My two cans and a string dialup doesn’t do video.

Here’s a short one of Sam hurdling a Creek player…OF course…lol! You should know the Fair/Creek rivalry is almost as intense as the UNC/Duke rivalry. Anytime I can contribute to the embarrassment of Creek… ;)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eygKqRMd94U&mode=related&search=

Curmudgeon - ldgirl use to laugh about her best friend who was a Lady Bobcat last year. Beautiful girl, always perfectly groomed and poised, modeled part time…the epitome of femininity…until she got on that basketball court. Then…looook out! ldgirl used say…omgosh Mom! D**** is SCARY when she plays! lol!

That about sums up most of our football team  We are one of those 5A that could just about be 4A, so our pickins are slim :)

ldmom, like I said before, I’m just so thankful that Sam didn’t hurdle my ds, I would hate for him to be immortalized on youtube for that! (or really for anything else embarrassing!!!)

ag - I didn’t realize that was your guy! That youtube of Andrew is really getting around…I had rec’d it in an email from a friend.
