Academic program

Minnechaug is viewed as one of the finest secondary schools, public or independent, in Western Massachusetts. The faculty offers a curriculum geared toward a wide range of students, including an extensive Honors/Advanced Placement program. Typically, around 90% of each graduating class goes on to pursue higher education, and about 75%-80% of each class enrolls in a four-year undergraduate program. In recent years, graduates have been accepted to many prestigious institutions of higher learning, including six of the eight Ivy League schools and MIT.

Extracurricular activities

The athletic program has teams in many different sports, and the school almost always captures at least one divisional championship each year. Many of the extracurricular organizations also have a high degree of prestige, including the award-winning school newspaper (The Smoke Signal) and various debate and mock-trial teams.

Physical plant improvements

Several areas within Minnechaug’s physical plant, first constructed in the middle of the twentieth century, are beginning to fail, causing the communities of Hampden and Wilbraham to investigate how these issues should be resolved. Proposed solutions range from moderate renovation to the construction of a completely new facility on the current site of some of the athletic fields. Actual work is not expected to begin until at least 2009."

“During the past thirty years, Cathedral has suffered from a decline in enrolment due to a waning population in the area and by increases in fees.”

Hah, it’s pretty amazing just to see my town on wiki, forget the school

My town is just a tiny bit more diverse than yours Drew, but the financial incomes are waaaay lower

Here’s my town:

Wow. 18% below the poverty level?!

What’s the national average?

Yea, my town is white, preppy, rich, and close-minded. It’s pretty lame.

My school Thomas S. Wootton
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Sprigg_Wootton_High_School

You think a $50,000 a year salary is rich?

Yeah 50,000 a year is not rich my friend!

no, but most of the kids I know parents’ make 100k + and the median income for a family is 81,510, which is significantly above the national average/

This isn’t my city, but the one next to ours. Its what I’d consider “rich.”

So I guess there are a lot of “homemakers” in that area.

.2% under the poverty line? amazing.
