Hahaha! Guess helicoptering isn’t just a boomer and beyond trait.

Thanks barrons, that was interesting. I would think that in 1963 the “helicoptering” described in the link would have been the result of frustrated housewives pouring their pent-up ambitions into managing their children’s lives in the absence of other outlets for their energies (apart from drinking martinis, smoking, and playing bridge a la Betty Draper). It’s harder to figure out what causes it now.

When I was in college, I tutored a coworker who was having difficulty passing the CBEST – the teacher test - in California. His writing was poor, he had very low comprehension and he struggled at math. Yet, he had a decent GPA 3.something from a decent school.

Turns out his mother had returned to college when he was a freshman. They had many classes together. Guess who did his homework? He was on his 3rd try to pass the CBEST. Don’t know if he ever did. Sad thing is that he wasn’t unintelligent, just uneducated. I suspect she had long done his homework.

Agent, that is such a sad commentary on educators. If his mother was also an education major, she didn’t understand what an educator does.
