"She’s been in this business long enough to watch as the term “helicopter parents’’ has fallen out of style, morphing into something even more colorful and wonderfully apt.

“Well, we’re now calling them Zambonis,’’ she said. “You know how the Zamboni comes out on the ice and it’s all smooth and there’s no bumps. No dings. Nothing. They come through and they get on the Zamboni and it’s all clear."

First I heard of the new term!

I’m laughing. I spend lots of time at the rink since i have two daughters who skate.

“The thickest packages”? The writer is out of touch with the modern application process.

Maybe “we” is just her.

I can’t with all of these classifications of parenting. It’s like there’s a new Mommy Myers-Briggs category every few months. People! Just love your kids, do the best you can, and don’t beat yourself up if you aren’t perfect! Maybe I’ll christen that the “Good Enough I Guess” Parent.

Also known as “bulldozer” parents, as in they bulldoze any obstacles out of their child’s way.

Can be an easy trap to fall into for well-meaning involved parents. To keep myself from doing so, I emphasize the old adage “Prepare your child for the path, not the path for your child.” It helps!

I thought the new in vogue term was “lawnmower” parents.

Last year, it was the “snowplow parents” making the news…
