don’t worry about it— it just doesn’t work that way in my school and probably many other schools. many people i know are just choosing not to go b/c we want to do something else… like going out to nyc for example. so not everyone who is antiprom is an outsider. but at the same time, i understand ur point about the self-confidence factor, esp. concerning asking people out to prom.

its just the fact that i mean this website is more or less comprised of kids who are extremely intelligent and do great in school and most of the time that leads to ’ unpopularity’ or w/e you would like to call it, and i just felt that some people were acting like they were ’ too good’ for something like prom, when the case is that the defiance is out of some loner-hood ( no not a word lol)

w/e sall good

exactly. thats why i didnt attend the prom myself.

@The Witzness: It is the universal expectation that I go to an event I feel is hollow and unpleasant that keeps me from attending. I despise the idea; the people slightly less so.

prom is nothing but dancing and eating.
you can do that someplace else.

hey, i went to nyc and i had an awesome time!!! i saw wicked on broadway and it was wayy better than going to my school’s prom!

oh i wanted to see that so badly but couldn’t get tickets!!! grrr jealous :)

yeah, you see …you can have fun by going someplace else and not your prom.
w/prom, you gotta go to a specific location, dress prom-like, and act prom like, but the best part is when you get out of prom and go w/your friends to some party…why not just party all along???
who’s with me??? :)

I’m not going to prom this year due to a hectic schedule. Our school scheduled our prom on a day I’ll be taking two AP tests; I don’t think I’d have the energy for prom in that case. I’m hoping to attend prom next year though.

okay, so b/c my friends and I are not going to the prom we gotta come
up with a party. I need some ideas…i live in brooklyn, New York.
we got absolutely no party space and renting it is too expensive.
so wut do we do and where do we go.
plllllzzzzzz help!!! no clubs, coz i’m not 18 yet and i wanna stay in brooklyn, not go to the city. any clues on how to organize it?

HELP…wut would u do…?

Start a mailing list, ask for suggestions, petition parents for a house, clearly explain who is invited, have the total cost predetermined and divided evenly among the partygoers, avoid substances.

My friends and I found a restaurant w/ a back room that you don’t have to pay for the room only for your food so that’s what we’re doing. I don’t know if there’s any like that in your area but it may be worth asking around.

cool, is the room big?
does it have a particular name or something/i mean is it for special occasions or just a room?

…one of my best friends played a real terrible trick on me…for the longest time she said she was not going to go to the prom, and this really discouraged me from going, b/c i felt like if she’ll not be there, i’ll feel out of place a bit. But, hey, wuddaya u know? she got the dress and the ticket and will get picked up by a gorgeous limo tomorrow, b/c all of a sudden, last minute, she changed her mind and bought the ticket, sending a whole bunch of dust in my face. Well, i still lover her, and it’s not really her fault, but now i feel like i’m really going to miss out since she will be there. Ouch…oh well, i still have my other best friend to party with…

but we can’t throw a party b/c…we don’t have the resources really.
what to do??? help, anyone?

won’t you please respond…this post was doing so well…until u all left me…prom shoppin i bet… right??? brrr

sorry, we didn’t abandon u! I am def NOT prom shopping lol!
some of my friends did the same thing, so when it got down to the end, it was only me and one friend. so we didn’t really have enough people for a party ,as I had originally planned. my friend and i went to see a musical and stayed overnight in nyc. we did some shopping and had a great, memorable time for a fraction of the price of prom. i’m actually in ct and i saw that you are in brooklyn. I know that u said u didn’t want to go into the city, and i dunno what’s around u, so maybe the city would be the place to go. make the most of the night and have a great time whatever u do. :)

oh thanks!! i think i should really start a mailing list…and see how many ppl i can get to chill with…i was thinking we could all put in a few $$ and it’ll come out to something good and we could spend it on food/going out…instead of paying 100ds of $$ just for yourself at the prom. I’m clueless

prom can be fun and cheap… you dont HAVE to give into all the frenzy.

i originally wasn’t going to go, but figured i should since there was a good chance i would get voted onto prom court (which ended up happening). i had a 50$ dress, flip flops, hair in a ponytail, no manicure… i literally had to get ready in 5 minutes for a few reasons… and i still looked terrific and had a lot of fun. the hardest thing was being around annoying people who worried about chipping their nail polish and following the correct hair-washing protocol for like, the week leading up to it. yes–it can get overhyped, but you just have to let them have their fun, right?

man, my sister lost virginity :(, she’s only a sophmore, a senior took it
