Like an idiot I went out and purchased a laptop , 14.1 screen as my CPU at the ranch croaked. The idiot part was to not even turn on thstore display to see tyhe size of the words on the page. What? Am I in training to write the preamble to the constitution on the back of a postage stamp? I can’t see diddly. I already can’t type. This will truly suck.

I went to settings on aol and raised the font from 10-14. Nada.

This thing is useless as is. I already have a headache. Somebody, anybody? Have mercy on a old man, would ya?

If so, go to Start –> Control Panel –> Appearances and Themes (the picture of the computer with a paint palette, if you can’t read the letters ;)) –> Change the Screen Resolution.

EDIT: Should I have written this whole post nice and big for ya? :D

The 14.1" screen should be fine. If it’s a PC versus Mac -

You can try changing your display settings to a lower resolution which will increase the size of what you see on the screen including the characters. Right click in the background area - click ‘Properties’, click the ‘Settings’ tab - move the ‘Screen Reolution’ to the left (less) to decrease the resolution. Try 1024x768 first and see how you like it. You probably don’t want to go less than 800x600.

Another option is to change the 'Display Properties (same spot as above) click the ‘Appearance’ tab, then change the ‘Font Size’ to extra large fonts.

Another option - go to the optometrist and have them write you a prescription for glasses that focus about 18" in front of you. I did this and it helps a lot - one pair for screen distance and another pair for long distance (didn’t want bifocals and I don’t need glasses to read).

My Gosh, I actually did it. I’m feeling like , like, like …well…no I’m not. I’m still a neanderthal. Many thanks. I would have beat it into dust before morning. If you can’t fix it with a ballpeen hammer, you can sure teach it a lesson.;)

I’m writing on a 14 inch screen. Under View on the toolbar at top is a dropdown menu that allows you to adjust text size. It is the easiest way to adjust text size if you are on a PC.

Hey, are you Ctrl + people using internet explorer? Mine doesn’t work with IE, but I use Mozilla, and Ctrl + makes the font bigger with Mozilla. But I have always just used Ctrl and the mouse wheel to make my fonts bigger or smaller. Works the same as the + key.

While I learned this little trick just weeks ago when I received my Macbook, I had no idea I could do the same on a PC. All old people in the house are now happy!

What other little tricks or shortcuts have you found helpful for PC and/or Macs?

Wow, I can make the screen big three different ways now! We’ve had computers for about 15 years and I never knew how to make the letters bigger!

Yeah, I’m with snowball - what else have we been missing??
