I’m am currently petitioning to keep a teacher at my school. He is the sponsor for a club I started. Would I be able to add this club to my application if he is transferred? Can I add petitioning to application too?

no…

If you were ever a member of the club you can add it to your app, but don’t say you were in it during years that you weren’t.

Why exactly would the club go with the teacher, though? It’s unlikely a teacher will stay in your school because of a petition, but if you started a club in your school I’m not sure why a new sponsor couldn’t be found.

The teacher was one of the few at my school who liked astronomy. The petition was a failed attempt at getting the darn school to keep a great teacher.

It kind of sounds like you wanted to add to your application not keep the teacher.

Can you get another science teacher to sponsor your club? Physics teachers are often interested in astronomy as well (there is certainly some crossover between the fields these days). Your school must have a physics teacher… if that is the teacher who is leaving, you can ask the new person if they will do it.

I do know that in a small school or with a precariously new club, a teacher change can cause gaps in the club schedule or cancellation altogether. There used to be a bridge club at my kids’ school, but it went away when a math teacher transferred. That same teacher was the Quiz Bowl coach, but fortunately they found someone else to do that who ended up building Quiz Bowl into one of the most popular activities at the school. So a club can get stronger or weaker with the departure of a teacher, it just depends.

If the club does go away, try to find other astronomy activities (look into local adult clubs, take a class outside school in it, help scout troops with astronomy activities). You can still have astronomy as an activity on your college apps even if your school club folds.

No. I started the petition a month ago. My brother told me that woild be perfect on an application.( The petition failed horribly. ) I plan to find some way to keep astronomy apart of my schedule. Either at school or home.
