My daughter is considering a number of boarding schools and my wife and i are new to this arena. She is very hardworking but needs extra help with her studies to stay on track, and at her current independent day school she gets a mix of As and Bs. We want to find a school that has good academics, a strong academic support program (learning center, etc) and is not too much of a pressure cooker. Considering CT/MA/Western NY. Bonus points if the school has a great squash program, which is important to her. Thanks to all for the feedback!
New Hampton, Proctor, Pomfret, Millbrook
Here is a pinned post that I started when we were looking. My son is entering his sophomore year in college now, so it’s a little old, but I’d say the schools mentioned are still worth looking at. Schools with Academic Support - #103 by Golfgr8
I think Suffield in CT has that atmosphere. Don’t know about the squash team, other than they have one.
Love Millbrook! My adhd son thrived there, with the help of the learning center. Good squash program, though to be fair don’t know specifically about girls’ squash. Plus they have the zoo! Can be life changing for some kids.
Perhaps you meant eastern New York State, which is proximate to Connecticut and Massachusetts?
Definitely look at Williston-Northampton. They have a great academic support center, and my son loves it because “the vibes are chill” but the classes are still challenging. It is a very friendly and open atmosphere. They have a squash team,I don’t know that it is one of their strongest sports, but overall their girls athletics are great.
Take a look at Westover and Canterbury. Both offer support - Canterbury has a great learning center available to all students. Westover has a great squash facility. They are close to each other, so you can easily visit both in one day.
