Help!! I missed my midterm!!

I got the days mixed up and accidentally missed my online midterm exam. It was worth 15% of my grade. However, I have made straight A’s in that class, aside from one 75. There is still 3 quizzes and 3 assignments left in the class. (Quizzes and assignments are worth 20%) Can I still pass? I’m really worried… Thanks!

…Calculate this yourself by setting up an equation.

@basedchem It says she’s blonde.

If you got a 0 on the exam, then you got a 0 for an assignment that is worth 15% of your grade meaning that even if you got perfect scores on everything else (which you didnt), you can only get an 85. If this is not an A, then you can NOT get an A.

Luckily, hair color has nothing to do with intelligence. To suggest so is to be a real jerk.

Can you contact professor if you can retake? Next time set a bunch of alarms on your phone

People are having a very hard time reading the original post correctly.

@iamjack

Did she ask if she could still get an A? No, she very specifically asked

Are you a blonde by any chance?

@mommdc

Strongly implying you think she overslept. Yet what she said was

No amount of alarm setting is going to correct that. I will say, however, that with the built in calendar functions they have on smartphones now, and assuming she has a smartphone (which we do not know) she should put it in her calendar immediately upon learning of the “appointment” and set both a one day and one hour alert.

@BlondeNInjaX0X0

Yes, you can still pass.

Sorry I guess I worded that wrong. I always set reminders (alarms) on my phone so I don’t forget about things, I’m a busy mom and sometimes a bit forgetful.

I did not mean to imply the OP overslept.

@bodangles @fallenchemist Yeah and I didn’t mean to say that OP was dumb because she as blonde – I was implying that she is probably more inclined towards social work and fighting gender inequality.

It was my presumption that an A was a passing grade. I apologize for using non conventional standards.

Yes, you can still pass, but you should easily be able to set up an equation to figure this out if you made it to college

@bodangles (think @iamjack was making a joke; i’m blond, OP’s username implies she’s blonde, the “dumb blonde” trope is recognized in pop culture (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DumbBlonde), don’t really see anything wrong with his first joke. i understand why people would find the second off-putting)

You can still pass, but I’d recommend going to the professor and seeing if they’ll let you take it. These things happen, and professors are people too. Even if 9 times out of 10 they’ll say no, you might get lucky and be able to take the test.

@Vctory A joke based on insulting someone isn’t a very good joke.

Especially based on physical characteristics. “Haha! You’re female and have a particular haircolor! You must be dumb as a rock!”

You still are making no sense. An A is a passing grade, it just is not the only passing gade, and if you are admitting not knowing that then I think you have zero right to cast aspersions towards others. But of course you did know that and are just not owning up to your initial error.

Also, no more blond jokes or trivial assumptions about what major someone might have. Technically those kinds of things violate the Terms of Service.

@bodangles - Don’t worry. People are just jealous because so few people are naturally blonde and it’s such a pretty hair color.

Go to your professor immediately and explain what happened.
If you are an A-student in the class, they may be more willing to work with you.

@bodangles I never said anything about her being a female… and come on… everyone has gotten so sensitive over the last decade. I remember when people used to use words that are now deemed socially offensive (such as retarded and gay) and laughed about it. People are really putting a barrier to free speech.

Right. Because words mean absolutely nothing, Alice.

For the love of all that is good, learn what “freedom of speech” means.

Hint: it doesn’t mean people can’t negatively look upon for your choice of idiotic words.

So what did the professor say?

I never found any of those words laughable.

@iamjack
Bad news: people haven’t gotten more sensitive. They’ve merely gotten more verbal.

Word have always had the power to hurt. Those words, and others, have always been used as slurs, as ways to hurt people, as ways to make them feel less important, less worthy than others.

Those words have always been “socially offensive.” When we heard Archie Bunker use those words, or others like them, in the 70’s, we all recognized those words for what they were.

It’s only recently that people have had the guts to speak up and tell those members of society who just don’t seem to get it to simply STOP. To stop using words to make others feel excluded. To stop using words to hurt others. To stop trying to pull themselves up by pushing other people down.

There’s no barrier to free speech. Anyone is free to be a much a bigot as they choose. The fact that others tell the bigots to stop using those offensive words can’t make them stop. They can continue to hurt others, using that right to free speech.

But other people are finally using their right to free speech to call out the bigots. Democracy at its finest.
