HELP! Long reply lost ... can it be recovered?

At my request, my daughter spent a VERY long time (more than 90 minutes) replying to some questions regarding her school (Hendrix College). She just came downstairs and looked as though she might cry - when she hit the post button, it said she was no longer logged in and it prompted her to do so. She logged in again and everything she had worked on was gone. She continued to hit the back button to see if she could find the message, but it shows up no where. It does show a reply number at the top when she logs in, but nothing shows up on the page. Any ideas? At this point, she is very frustrated and cannot take the time to sit down and re-type everything. She is preparing to leave for Rwanda in a couple of days for two weeks to complete research for her thesis. Any ideas on how to retrieve the reply? Thanks so much!!!

I have never had any luck with this… I have learned that if I am making a long post, I should mark and copy the text before hitting submit reply, just in case… then if I lose it, I can paste it into a new post. Sorry for your D, this is the method I have found for dealing with it.

Thanks so much! That is what we feared. I wish I had thought to tell her that because I have nearly lost something before but was able to “back” page and retrieve it. We have both certainly learned our lesson. Thanks again!

This has happened to me several times and I don’t know of any way to retrieve it. Sorry. It is annoying. I usually try and remember to do what Intparent suggests and copy my post before I click the button - but I often forget - usually when I have done a long reply of course - and find I lose it.

I have found sometimes the back page works and others it does not. Seems like the longer the post the less likely it is that it will still be there (I am sure that is not really the case - it just seems that way when I am frustrated about losing a long post!!)

I use a local editor (emacs) for anything longer than two paragraphs. It has a ton of powerful editing features and checkpoints so that you can recover if your machine crashes.

It’s happened to me also. On more than one occasion, I’ve found some of my reply in another window, which had opened without my knowledge. Most often, though, the whole epistle is lost in cyber-space somewhere. Lucky for me, it tends to be in direct proportion with my temperment at that point in time though, which has often saved me from posting something which I would have regretted a bit later!
