Help Me Find College Matches?

Junior in Competetive Public High School in Massachusetts

ECs: Football (9,10), Wrestling (9), Lacrosse (9,10), Ping Pong (9-12)

I’m looking for a college with Aerospace or Nuclear Engineering majors and preferably Air Force Rotc.

I’ve pretty weak ECs and am an Asian male which pretty much rules out the the ivies.

Any suggestions for colleges that fit me are greatly appreciated!

You might want to think about the Air Force academy in Colorado. Lots of hoops to jump through, but it’s good in those majors, and it’s free if you get in. I’ve heard that Georgia Tech has one of the best aerospace engineering departments in the country.

Air Force Academy is NOT your typical college. Look into what you’re getting into if you consider going there. Participating in rough physical sport and also boxing are required of all undergraduates. Most students get about 5 hours of sleep a night.

Georgia Tech would be good, and with those stats you’d get in.

Michigan, Purdue, Case Western, RPI. Can’t beat the all around education at the academies but there are those other requirements mentioned (boxing PE, wrestling PE, survival training).

I think that Johns Hopkins has the ROTC. It definitely is good for engineering. You would be a match, and they are less picky about ECs than some of the schools.

University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign has a strong AFROTC program and Aerospace.

Embry-Riddle is very devoted to both their ROTC and Aero programs.

Illinois Institute of Technology is very generous to ROTC students (beyond the scholarships) and has Aero.

Some suggestions of schools that have what you’re looking for (Air force ROTC, majors in either areospace or nuclear engineering) and are in a good range for you, stats-wise…

REACH: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MA), California Institute of Technology (CA)

SEMI-REACH: University of California-Berkeley (CA), University of California-Los Angeles (CA), University of Southern California (CA)

GOOD FIT: Rensselear Polytechnic Institute (NY), University of Maryland-College Park (MD), University of Michigan (MI), University of Notre Dame (IN), University of Virginia (VA)

LIKELY: Boston University (MA), California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (CA), Case Western Reserve University (OH), Georgia Institute of Technology (GA), Penn State University Park ¶, Purdue University (IN), Rochester Institute of Technology (NY), Syracuse University (NY), University of California-Davis (CA), University of California-Irvine (CA), University of California-San Diego (CA), University of Colorado-Boulder (CO), University of Delaware (DE), Worcester Polytechnic Institute (MA)

No offense, but Hopkins is a reach for everyone. I’d say it’s a high reach for you, as you only took 1 AP and you didn’t continue a lot of your ECs throughout high school (i.e. 2 years of lacrosse is not going to get you recruited, nor is 2 years of football)

I second WPI. Incidentally, football could be a big boost for admission at WPI.
