Wow, that’s approaching the price of espresso machines!!
A Moccamaster with plastic parts is $369 so it doesn’t seem out of line - as long as it works well. I’ll give it the 30 day test.
She’s a beauty - please report back! ![]()
This looks similar to my beloved Brim which I don’t think is made anymore

We were talking about Nespresso machines on another thread. I’ve had some thought about getting one. My kids say I need one. ![]()
H doesn’t drink coffee and I drink one cup a day. I do like my current 8 c maker though and just make my one (well technically 2 cups on the machine) cup daily.
What do we think of this Costco deal for February? $139 for the machine, the frother (I admit I do have a frother now that is decent) and 32 capsules.
It’s a good price and you get a good amount of pods. My daughter considered it but went with a different model that was on sale at Target. I’m not sure why. My son asked for an even different model that had a lower profile from William Sonoma for Christmas but that one doesn’t look like it’s on sale.
The nice thing about Costco s it’s easy to return if you don’t like it.
I have a moccamaster for everyday use but also an older Nespresso that takes the smaller pods that I use for an afternoon coffee. Actually having a cup iced right now.
Looks great, I have the Vertuo and the frother. An older model.
I like that it makes different sizes of coffee. So I can drink an espresso and a cup of coffee, which ever I want that day.
Costco sells the vertuo capsules now so it’s easy to get them there. It’s also easy to order if you want from Nespresso. I like the Starbucks capsules, I usually order decaf from the Nespresso site
Do not get the Next. It has an incredibly poor reliability record; the Pop does as well. I read that the Next machines made in Mexico can be ok, but the made-in-Hungary ones are to be avoided at all costs.
The new model-Vertuo UP-has gotten good reviews. The Vertuo Plus, which they’re phasing out, is supposed to be great. I’m pretty sure that’s what my sisters have.
One thing to consider. The machines are still under patents and the pods available are only Nespresso and Starbucks (made by Nespresso). They can be pricey, depending on which blend you like. If you’re close to a boutique, they always offer free tastes.
Check out the Nespresso subreddit for good info.
I only have Original line machines, so I’m a bit biased.
Welcome to the never-ending expense and return obligation of those Nespresso pods, not to mention the need for the space and way to store them.
What we won’t do for that cappucino, though.
Well, one of my hesitations is if I will get annoyed at buying the pods/capsules against the price of good coffee beans or grounds. I am also annoyed to have another appliance on the counter - I def would not store the pods on the counter, I’d shove them in a drawer!
Like most purchases, I’ll think about it for 3 years before I purchase it. ![]()
I didn’t know Costco sold the pods now - in store or online??
The Nespresso is DH’s addiction, but he has lured me into his pod world with cappucinos. At the cabin, the pods are stored in a drawer organizer but, alas, I have no drawer to give up in this kitchen but plenty of counter space.
The Vertuo stuff is still patented with the patents expiring sometime in the 2029-2030-ish timeframe, if I’m not mistaken. The patents covering the original Nespresso machine have expired. That’s why you see a number of other companies offering Nespresso-like machines (I have one by a different brand) and capsules. However, Vertuo capsules and machines are strictly controlled by Nespresso.
Right. I should have been more clear about the difference between the two kinds.
When I’m in Europe I buy a number of third-party original capsules as well as Nespresso ones because of the variety and the lower prices.
This is my current collection and setup. I have another machine +pods at our other place.
Very nice! ![]()
Everyone meet at @zeebamom ’s for an espresso!!!
. Look at all your pods!
I saw the Starbucks Nespresso capsules in store at Costco.
I have also heard the Next is NOT the machine to get.
ETA - this is the one I’ve heard is really good and tried at a VRBO place. https://www.macys.com/shop/product/nespresso-vertuo-coffee-espresso-machine-by-breville-chrome-with-aeroccino-milk-frother?ID=4451331
A small footprint is important to me - I looked a little at the Breville/nespresso units but size wise wasn’t sure about it.
This is definitely not a need but sort of a want. Also I can totally live without it. ![]()
I have an Original Nepresso. It takes up much less space than the Nespresso Breville. I like it alot. I order pods online directly from Nespress because the two places in my area where I could purchase them aren’t that close. If I run out of pods, I can buy Peet’s Nespresso pods at the local grocery store. One thing I like about buying directly from Nespresso is that you can get free bags for recycling that you can take to a UPS site. You don’t pay for shipping them. I like to believe Nespresso is recycling them.
