Help me Rutgers University

Guys, I am really worried that I might not get accepted to Rutgers. I am a freshman year applicant for the Fall 2026 term, and I am applying rolling admissions. How likely is that I will get accepted?

Knowing nothing about your profile or even which campus you applied to, we can’t really comment on what your particular chances of acceptance are. To complicate things further, Rutgers still hasn’t published an acceptance rate for this year’s freshman class. I can only say that for last year’s freshman class, the acceptance rate at the New Brunswick campus was 60% for all applicants and 65% for in state applicants. Fir all Rutgers campuses combined it was almost 80%.

I applied for the Fall term 2026 for rolling admission for New Brunswick. I am asking because this is the last admission plan that they are accepting students from.

Admissions to Rutgers New Brunswick is heavily determined by your high school gpa. If you are in the top quarter of your high school graduating class, you match the profile of 96% of last year’s freshman class.

I am in top 10% of my class and I have a 1380 for my SAT score. So, does that mean I have a chance?

Google “Rutgers admission statistics” and there is a chart that should give you a good idea (assuming essays, LORs, and ECs all fine).

If you are in the top 10% of your high school class, your chances of acceptance are very high. SAT scores are not an important factor for admissions decisions at Rutgers. But just so you know, 1380 was the exact average SAT of accepted students 2 years ago.

Also important for acceptance at Rutgers is the rigor of your high school classes. Did you take any AP courses or classes for college credit? Did you do well in them.

I have not take any in my previous years, but I have listed that I am self-studying to take those courses since none of them are offered at my school.

They want to see that you’ve taken the highest level courses that your high school offers. So, the fact that you’ve done that is positive as is the fact that you’re self-studying. Are you planning to take any exams after the self-study.

I should add that only half of last year’s freshman class submitted SAT scores, so the fact that you’re in the middle of those who did submit is a very strong point in your favor.

That’s a very good thing then, and yes I am planning to take the exam after studying for it. I am planning on writing that I self-studied in my resume as well, should I do that?

Yes.

Rutgers wants to see the following course work:

4 years of English
3 years of Math
2 years of Science
2 years of one foreign language
16 total academic units

Do you have those?

Yes I do. Do you know if Rutgers will accept a resume if it’s emailed directly to the admissions? I made it but I don’t if they will accept it?

I don’t believe that they do, but I don’t know for sure. Regardless, there is no harm in sending it. Your best chance of them looking at it is if you sent it through the portal.

What is your intended major?

USNWR lists the New Brunswick admissions rate for fall 2025 at 41%.

I’m not sure if that’s an official number, but it seems reasonable. Rutgers started using the Common App last year, leading to a large increase in applications and a corresponding drop in the acceptance rate.

I agree.

I’m pretty sure they will disregard any emailed resumes. Their stated policy is to only accept materials received through CA or their direct app (and SRAR).

Rutgers began using the common app 2 years ago, in 2023.

Various acceptance rates for Rutgers are being thrown out here and on Reddit, but no one so far has linked to a source. The only confirmed numbers that we have are from 2 years ago.

Whatever the guesses are from internet rumors and for whatever speculation makes them seem reasonable, the facts not taken into consideration are first, that the number of high school graduates is declining this year and second, that the number of international applicants is also expected to decline. So regardless of what the numbers were last year, there are only 2 possible outcomes in this scenario this year - either fewer applications or lower yield rates.
