It is Sunday evening.
If someone texts you that they will see you next week, Monday or Tuesday what days do they mean?
Tomorrow and Tuesday or 8 days from now Monday or Tues?

8 days from now.
Otherwise why not just say tomorrow or Tuesday?
Come on you guys. Just tomorrow or 8 days from now.
Yes, it is ridiculous.
Weeks typically begin on Sunday…
Bunsen, so tomorrow or 8 days. I need specifics.
It’s ambiguous and I’d just ask for clarification. I usually say in one Tuesday or in two Tuesdays.
Today is Sunday, so the present week is already on. “Next week” begins 7 days from now… So “next Monday” is 8 days from today, IMO.
I would text back to confirm.
The clearest expression is “Tuesday week,” which means a week from Tuesday.
or specific dates like around the 8th?
I find this is often a source of confusion. I’d text back and verify “so you mean Tuesday the 8th, right?”
But what do YOU think?
I think “next Monday” is Sept. 7.
This is why I always text/email, Tues, Sept 1. I read a quote recently, “Write not to be understood, but so you cannot be misunderstood.” I like that quote and try to review for it.
If I meant “this” Tues., I’d say “THIS Tues.” If I meant the following Tues., I would say, “A week from Tuesday,” and give the date.
If someone says “next (week) Tuesday,” I will ask/confirm the date because “next” or “next week” can mean different things to different people.
The Tuesday after Labor day otherwise they would have said this week not next week.
I would say 8 days from now, but English is not my first language, so I wouldn’t listen to me.
As I would say to D2-- just ask.
But, as others have said, " this" means the day after tomorrow and " next" means the Tues. after the next one. The one after Labor Day.
But again, ask!!
Here’s another reading: I’ll see you next week OR Monday (tomorrow) OR Tuesday (this Tuesday). (This would happen if the Oxford comma became optional. But I will go to my grave defending that darn comma’s importance!)
Already asked and confirmed. I’m just trying to find out how many people read this one way or another. It led to a major argument, a major stupid argument with spouse.
And of course I want to be right
:))
Lol, oldfort! The people who kicked serious grammar arse in my writing class were all raised outside North America.
sax - the spouse is always wrong. Even when the spouse is right. B-)
