Help me to choose an alternative major :)

Hello guys!
So I have about a week until the early action deadline. I am really wondering whether to apply EA or not since I am not really happy with my SAT score and I am not ready with my documents and essay. I want to study cognitive science but I doubt that universities that have that major would acceot me with that SAT scores (Lehigh, case reserve), so I would probably have to choose an alternative major. I would like to work in the artificial intelligence field/computational. I am not really keen on math so I guess comp sci is off the table. I really like biology but since I will not go to med school that is off the table, too. I was thinking about information systems or idk… :frowning: Thank you !
SAT:1190/1600
TOEFL:105/120
GPA: 3.8
EC: president of an aviation club
AC: diplomate European parliament programme; educational meetings for European parliament; French

(Lehigh,case reserve, Rochester, upenn)

If you want to work in artificial intelligence, there’s no way around math. Math is where all of the magic happens. Computer scientists or engineers will turn the math into efficient algorithms. They have to understand the math in order to do that.

If you really want to get into artificial intelligence, I would suggest for your major either math or computer science, with at least a minor in the other one. Be prepared to go to graduate school after college.

Non-technical “cognitive science” majors are usually more philosophy than anything else. Which is fine if you want to study philosophy - but do be aware that that’s what you signed up for, not a major that would lead to a career in AI.

Information systems and information technology majors are the core of business IT departments. They set up and maintain the computer networks, databases, IT security measures, etc. That may be a good choice of major if you want to work with computers and technology while avoiding math.

So your SAT puts you in the bottom 25% for all of those colleges. Assuming that you are not in a US-based school, and that you have done your own GPA conversion, your GPA cannot be relied upon. You have one (expensive) EC, which does not indicate much in the way of community involvement or leadership. You have no idea what you want to study or why. Your essays aren’t ready. And you don’t know enough about any of the places where you are thinking of applying to know that you do not have to apply directly to a major- you can apply as ‘undeclared’: it is normal to not declare the major until 2nd year.

To me that does not sound as if you are ready to apply EA.

Maybe psychology? I knew someone who took biology + computer science to go into cognitive science. Of course, I second the math. But seriously. Look at the schools you want to attend and what they require. And what degrees they offer, and what those degrees consist of, how they are interconnected.
