Help me with recommendations for safeties (75%+ acceptance) in the Northeast that have a more academic and artsy vibe

DS25 needs to add safeties to his list, but is coming from G&T, artsy public schools and is looking for the same. Size of school matters less than vibe. Would prefer schools within a 4-5 train or bus ride to NYC. All advice welcome!

Need his state and stats to really know what’s a ‘safety’ for him. as well as any cost constraints.

Might look at Bard, Sarah Lawrence, SUNY New Paltz maybe Purchase and Geneseo, Champlain.

In your other thread, this had been a compilation of many of the suggestions made, and a later post seemed as though Wheaton, Bard, and New Paltz had struck a chord with your kid. Are those no longer under consideration?

I’d also take a real close look at Ithaca, Muhlenberg, and Sarah Lawrence from that compilation.

One school that wasn’t mentioned above that your kid might want to consider is Drew which is less than an hour from NYC.

Wheaton, New Paltz, U Mass Amherst made the list. Bard was eliminated for personal reasons (close family member attended and was unhappy). Some of the others listed as extremely likely/Likely were rejected for not feeling right fit. Still making our way down the list. We will add Drew to check out. Thank you again for your help.

Lawrence, SUNY Purchase, Endicott?

I second this. Drew is a really neat school – from my perspective, it has a near-ideal location, a faculty that seems great and has a thriving arts department. My kid didn’t choose it, but I would not have been sad if they had.

Maybe Clark? Admit rate is 50% so not quite in the acceptance rate you were looking for but it does have a quirky, artsy vibe. I also think Muhlenberg would fit that description. Maybe Marist?

Clark is on the list and we will check the others out. Thank you!

UVM was my academic, artsy kid’s likely. He loved the vibes, for lack of a more precise way to describe it.

Mulenburg is very accepting and artsy.

Adding Goucher as a potential option.
