So I applied ED to Princeton and I was deferred, and I was just looking over my supplement and realized that I made a typo!!! Instead of using the correct homonym for “you’re” I wrote “your.” I think this was a major determinant in my deferral because I have stellar grades and EC’s. As of now I am seriously questioning my chances of getting into any Ivy and I’m worried that they’ll think I’m irresponsible and uneducated. My lifelong dream of attending a prestigious institution is ruined!!!
You were deferred. That means you’re still in the running. You can blame it on that one typo but seriously, your chances were tiny when you hit SUBMIT. You can’t do anything now. Please go and enjoy the rest of your senior year. Since you were deferred at PTon, you’re viable-- this means you’re an excellent student and will 99% likely have an excellent college career. Likely, you’re among the top 5-10% of all graduating seniors in this entire country. Congratulations.
Your ivy dream being ruined? Sorry. If you didn’t enter the application season understanding your miniscule chances, you have no one to blame but yourself.
^^that is the best story ever! Took a lot of scrolling to find out the student was actually accepted in the end. I think it’s a great example of the ad-coms looking for the best students overall and that those little nit-picky things aren’t what stands between you and admission.
Please dont put that pressure on yourself. My gut after reading your entry is that perhaps Princeton isnt the right place for you anyway. The pressure is intense and one cannot worry about simple mistakes…There are so many amazing schools out there and the Ivies are not the be all end all. My son is a freshman at Princeton. His two best friends (both student like you)were rejected (not deferred)-one ended up at Dartmouth, the other Vanderbilt. They are thrilled with their excellent choices. At the end of the day-its what you do with your education that matters.
