Help needed for Mother of Bride dresses

Thanks for the ‘shout out’, garland! I’m here
I would suggest looking at David’s Bridals or local Bridal shops. They may be able to order a certain style you like in a certain color. Also, think outside of the box a bit. If you see a gown that you love, it can easily be shortened to tea length! There was a poster on cc a few years ago that I counseled using pm’s and she ended up buying material of her choice & color and had a seamstress make a dress…that could be an option too…

I love this netter than what I bought as my MOG dress http://www.komarovinc.com/store/shop/dresses/v-5.html?color=navy Having trouble finding where it might be sold locally and if its available in petite. :frowning:

We are in this search in our family (my niece is getting married) for an August wedding. Check out White House Black Market wedding section.

Thanks all! I just sent her an email with your suggestions.

I LOVE all those Komorav dresses! They do seem to be her style. Thanks, Marilyn! I also like the Talbots one, but it might be too sheath-like for her. I’ll let you know her reactions, but if anyone sees anything else like those Komorays, let me know.

She has tried on some long dresses knowing that they can be shortened, as well as dresses in the wrong color. I’m not sure which stores she’s gone to, but my guess is that she’s been to everything in the Boston area.

jym626 - That dress would be amazing as for MOG. Until 24 hours ago I had never heard of Komarov. I too am intrigued by the designs. I think I may have to go to a Nordstroms to get a feel for sizing. I saw link today noting a 30% off sale. 30% Off At Komarov® - Get 30% Off Today! Code KMV30AF‎

Here is a simple yet elegant dress by Eileen Fisher:

Rats!! I could have gone today if I’d known!! That said, I need petite and I don’t think either store in town carries petite or that dress.

Sorry - bad wording on my part…It is Komarov that has the sale not Nordstroms.

Is this an afternoon or evening event? I love Lord and Taylors dress dept.
Nordstroms is nice too.

Does she enjoy shopping?

If yes, I’d send her to Nordstroms and let her ask for help. She can tell them what her occasion is and let a salesperson bring her a parade of dresses to try on. Or do you still have those old fashioned little private shops where you live? The ones that used to bring you a Coke while you shopped?

I am mostly an online shopper these days----I like shopping, but not enough time or big enough events to warrant venturing out. However, when I have had an occasion, I have gone to Nordstroms and done what I suggested: thrown myself on the mercy of the salesperson and let her bring me stuff to try on. Fun to be pampered. When my kids get married, I am planning on going to one of those fancy little shops and picking something there.

This is the dress I currently bought (but it looks different on this very young model). Thoughts? http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/eliza-j-lace-faille-dress-regular-petite/3966472?cm_cat=tellapart&cm_ite=core&cm_ven=display_rt

We have a Nordies and a Dillards, but the Lord& Taylor closed (I loved that store :frowning: )

Also look for J Kara.
I am decidedly ‘pear’ shaped and found a lovely J.Kara MOG dress online at Nordstrom’s back in 2013

Jym: This one from David’s Bridal looks very similar to yours, but in a tea length. Yours is beautiful, but just be careful because it looks like a very short hemline. Since you mentioned you’re petite, then maybe the hemline comes down farther on you! I think as a petite, you’d be swallowed up by a tea length dress! But since it’s in a Navy, perhaps the OP’s friend would like it? The website had a few others similar to choose from too.

Honestly, Jym, that v-neck dress was my favorite. Your dress is fine, just that I loved the lace and length of that Komarov dress. In all honesty, I never heard of that line before, but it has great designs

Unfortunately tea length doesn’t look good on short people. We are stumpy enough!

I just looked at the dress. Fortunately it has a 3" hem. I may take it to my seamstress and have it lengthened. The hem isnt as short as in that photo, but its a bit above the knee. When I tried it on I had on leggings, so dont know what it will look like with bare legs. I am a little worried. And can’t wear hose as will be wearing open shoes, most likely.

Rats. The v neck is out of stock on the Komarov website.

Here is another pretty choice from Dillards. Have her look there, there seems to be a lot to choose from. A million years ago when I was married, the bridesmaids also wore Royal Blue. My mother wore Silver and my mil wore Royal Blue. It doesn’t matter so much the exact color! The style is probably more important! As long as they don’t clash, like Purple and Orange or some ridiculous combo. But anything neutral should be fine! This dress from Dillard’s is a neutral color…

Those look lovely for the OP, chchipcookie. Any other suggestions for a MOG, where the decision was to wear short dresses?
