If I had attractive legs/knees, this wouldn’t be an issue. Sadly, garland nailed the issue in post # 72.
Which color did you see the dress in, mom60?
It was the black
Jym626- did you buy the petite? If you did you might try sizing down in the regular to get a bit more length if you feel it is short.
^^What a great idea, mom60. The regular size may be just right. I’m the one who thought the dress would be too short, but then again I’ve owned Eliza J dresses and have always felt they were a bit too short for me, my size, and my age. I wore them anyway, but was self conscious. I just wouldn’t want to be self conscious as something as important as a wedding ‘mother’ dress. It sounds like jym won’t have the same issues just by being a petite. But your suggestion may solve the issue if she feels it’s too short for her. If she doesn’t, then’s there’s no issue!
Regular will not fit me correctly in the upper body. Thats where I need the smaller size.
I must say that I like the Komarov dresses, but would like them even more if they were natural fibers.
Agree, Consolation. Silk especially would be especially nice… Although I’m not sure that natural fibers would be suitable for the special treatment (or whatever it is) the fabric in these dresses seems to have.
@soozievt #58 - if I had the money that’s the dress I’d get.
But I like jym’s too - you’ll lose those 10#. I’m not convinced you need to lengthen it.
Apparently 1500 calories a day is not enough to budge the scale. I have to go down to 1200
Some of those Tadashi Shoji stretch lace dresses are really nice. Love the metallic sheath one that nottelling linked to in Post 71.
I’m sure my friend is overwhelmed with all your suggestions. It’s almost a good thing she’s got 2 dresses to buy, because many of your choices wouldn’t work for an outdoor August wedding but might work for the November one (at least, I wouldn’t want to wear long sleeves to an outdoor August wedding).
I told her that once she got her dress picked out, this group would then help with shoes!
So many attractive dresses in all price ranges! I’m sure she will find something that will help her celebrate these joyous events!
@fireandrain…you sorta cross posted with me and so make sure to see that in post #90, I gave a link to a sleeveless option.
Thanks for letting be share in the suggestions, fireandrain.
Ohhhh… Shoes. Imelda Bunsen willl be happy to help.
yes we will need shoes. And a dress for the brunch.
There may also be showers and rehearsal dinner that could use clothing. Just saying if the prices are reasonable enough, several of these dresses may be suitable for some of these other events too.
I see a lot of popular brands mentioned here that have a place in my closet, too, but as a MOG or MOB, I’d recommend a good boutique over the department stores. Tadashi, Pappell etc. are widely distributed and you’ll see them coming and going at many weddings.
I would second @roshke’s recommendation and check out a few small boutiques. I believe the OP said her friend lived in the Boston area. If so, I have two suggestions–The Studio in Brookline, MA and BHLDN in Chestnut Hill. The latter is a bridal boutique with a small selection of mob/g dresses. The former is a great store with excellent customer service. Go in and tell them what you want and they will spend lots of time with you to find a great dress. The three owners have are great and have been inThe business for years.
