I don’t know if anybody can help me with this, but I’m trying to figure out how to calculate the GPA that my son has gotten from his dual enrollment classes at a community college. Right now he has a 3.88 at his high school, but he has taken Three classes at community college and has gotten three A’s. How does he factor those into his GPA?
His high school may or may not include that in his GPA (my daughter’s high school does not). In that case, it is a separate GPA on a separate transcript (if all As, then it is a 4.0).
Since you have tagged this with UC, then for the purposes of the UC GPA, all dual enrollment classes get a +1 bump in the weighted GPA (same weighting as AP classes).
UC transferable DE/CC courses taken the summer after 9th through the summer prior to 12th will be included in the UC GPA calculation.
Each DE semester course will get one extra Honors point in the calculation.
You can use the Rogerhub calculator to calculate all 3 UC GPA’s: GPA Calculator for the University of California – RogerHub
For UC, a transferable college course counts as one course and one grade with the honors +1 point. For CSU, it counts as two courses and two grades with honors +1 points.
Thanks so much. So if his gpa is 3.88, do I then add those three A’s into the calculation which would make his weighted gpa ia 4.1? Or will he have a 3.88, and then a 5.0 just for the three A’s from community college?
I tried the Roger hub Calculator but it wouldn’t let me add the UC classes
It depends. If his high school counts the classes towards his GPA and you are looking for his updated high school GPA, then yes, you just add them in. It is possible that his high school will NOT include those grades in his GPA, however. You should ask his counselor about their school policy as different schools handle it differently.
If you are looking to calculate his UC GPA, then you need to start over on the GPA calculation to exclude 9th and 12th grade grades, as the UCs only look at 10th and 11th grade grades in their GPA calculation, then you add in the CC classes as 5.0 per class.
For the purposes of Roger’s Hub, you add in CC classes the same way you add in other classes. You count the CC classes when you add up ALL A-G courses, if they are UC transferable:
- If you took a-g courses at a community college, include them in your GPA. You should also count community college courses as honors courses if they are eligble for transfer credit. Use this site to look up transfer elibility for California community colleges.
