Help Review my Appeal for Reinstatement

i have currently been disqualified from my university and would like some help on my appeal.

Dear Mr. Brad Korbesmeyer,

My name is XXX and I am majoring in Biology. As soon as I found out that I was accepted to become a student at SUNY XXXX, I was overfilled with joy. I could finally live my dream and become one step closer to becoming a physical therapist. Even though campus is really far from home, I knew this was the place to be. I wanted to experience what it would be like to be on my own and be in a place where I didn’t know anyone.

In the fall semester, I was optimistic about college life on my own. As the weeks went by, I started to have problems with my roommate. I would talk to my resident assistant about our problems and how to fix them, but things didn’t change. I would constantly be out of my room to avoid my roommate and do anything to not be in contact with her. It was really hard to focus when she was constantly having people over without telling me beforehand, regardless if I was trying to study or not. She didn’t respect any of the roommate agreements that we made in the beginning of the year and at the end of October, we got into an argument that resulted me in leaving the room because the conflict could not be resolved. I was then moved into an empty room and asked a girl on my floor to room with me, in hopes to move past the bad experience I had with my first roommate and make the best of my freshman year at SUNY XXX. As my new roommate and I got closer, she tried to overstep boundaries and take advantage of me. After we spoke about how I felt about what was happening, I felt tension between us. Being in my room was not where I wanted to be.
Since my freshman year wasn’t going as planned, I tried to find an outlet and resulted on joining the cheerleading team. There I easily made new friends who were very willing to help me get back on track by offering to help study with me and try to regain my focus on academics besides dwelling on my problems with my roommate. I also received a position on the EBoard as an assistant to the treasurer for the Fall 2014 semester. As a team we do community service, participate in campus activities, and cheer for the men and women basketball teams. Although my living situations weren’t the best, I tried my hardest in all my classes but the stress spilled over into other areas of my life, including my work place, my academics, and cheerleading. At this point I became very homesick and was in constant contact with my family. On several occasions I tried to go home but it was very hard due to expenses.
When the fall semester came to an end and I was finally able to go home for a while, I received my grades and was not happy with what I got. I knew when I get back to school I would have to try harder and aim for a higher GPA. I joined the Pre- Health Club to help me get back on track with people who were interested in the same thing I was. The Pre- Health Club held study sessions every Thursday and Sunday, where I was able to go to my fellow peers and ask for help.
For the next semester, Fall 2014, I plan to change my major to Wellness Management. With some research, I found out that I would still be able to achieve my dream of becoming a physical therapist. By changing my major I feel that I will be able to succeed in this field and be confident with the classes I would be able to take. For the next semester, my fellow EBoard members and I were talking about “library hours.” This is to encourage members of the team to come to the library at a certain time to help focus on their academics. I plan to use this time to buckle down and tackle all the work I need to do. I plan to change my study habits, mange my time wisely, review my notes everyday and get with a tutor when I really need the help. I also plan to keep an organized agenda of all assignments, tests, and meetings that I need to be on top of. I also registered to take MAT 179 over in hopes to get a better grade and pull up my GPA. I planned to live in a suite with some of my teammates knowing that we will all get along.
I feel encouraged to keep my education going despite of what happened during the year. It has taught me how to be on my own and how to handle tough situations. I really feel that SUNY XXX is the place for me. I have high expectations for myself in the Fall 2014 semester and my future.
