Yes! I recommend Built By Girls to everyone who applied. Any girl can do it! They match you to a mentor in your field of interest and most mentors will help you with your project. They also connect you to a great group of supportive girls on slack?
I put down two fellowships I was awarded, a state award, a prestigious national award (I was the winner of my city for this and went on to the national level; for context a HERlead alum won this competition after the program whilst I am a finalist/ambassador right now), Scholastic Award for Writing, and many speech team awards. I didn’t necessarily state all my performance invitations but mentioned a few in my bio (like being featured by the Apollo, PBS, Apple etc.) I guess, if I’m rejected, it would probably be because my project idea didn’t hold up to those accepted, which is completely fine. I probably just have to develop my idea more .
Ahhhh, I relate. I really would like to know the status asap.
Based on last year’s thread, it looks like no decisions were released the day after the first round of acceptances. So it seems as if we’ll all find out by tomorrow.
My best guess is what someone said earlier about priority acceptances. It seems like too much of a coincidence that MULTIPLE people last year on the College Confidential thread alone were on the waitlist and got accepted after some girls turned down their offers.
If everyone got their acceptances on the first day, it would make sense that there would only be a few girls getting off the waitlist. However, statistically, it seems unlikely that all of those girls would be the ones contributing to the forum the entire time. You get what I mean?
But, also, I’m unsure. And maybe being overly hopeful, haha.
Wait. Huh. It looks like some girls got their decisions, like, a week or more after the initial acceptances???
Last year, that is.
I honestly think it may be based on region. How else would they have such a wide-spread distribution across the country…Perhaps they sort applicants based on location (as places like L.A. or NYC may have different opportunities than in other locations) and then look through the applicants and pick some top choices. Then, I think that they compare such applicants once more to make final decisions per location.
It could be possible that there won’t even be a second round of acceptances?
Thanks, @art2022! If any of you are interested in computer science, I’ve also heard of a program called She++ #Include Fellows. It’s pretty similar to HERLead, but the application deadline is closed for this year, so any of you could apply next year if you’re interested.
Ahh this sucks because I am finding about all these opportunities but it is too late for me as I am a rising seniors
@dancer128 I feel the exact same
guys i second doing built by girls! Such an amazing program with amazing people!
I’m a rising senior too. A minute ago I actually started a Harvard 2025 admissions thread if anyone wants to apply next year (I am planning on RDing there). Honestly, the stress of finding out whether we will be accepted into the fellowship is giving me a glimpse of what will happen next year during college acceptances.
@ ballerina5678 are you a She++ #include Fellow this year!? I am! We should connect if so. Also, loving the support on this thread, it’s amazing.
@coolbean1000 I have not applied to the program but have heard great things about it! And congrats on that acceptance, that’s so awesome!
@coolbean1000 I know! Everyone on this thread seems really nice! Maybe we could start our own cohort if this doesn’t work out? Lol.
Thank you so much @ballerina5678
it’s a great program. Haha @aspiringtoart we can create our own leadership forum this summer via Zoom!
@aspiringtoart and @coolbean1000 Our own leadership forum would actually be so cool!
Yeah, honestly! I was joking, but now that I think about it, that could be really fun.
Also, I feel like this is how these great programs get started. Let’s go female empowerment!
Haha it would actually be fun to hang out and discuss possible projects! Let me know if this happens lol
I think that there was another wave of acceptances yesterday because I see people on social media saying they got into HERlead 12 hours ago (as well as the day before too).
