He's Now "Completely Heterosexual"

Dotty, why were you invoking my name?

I wonder how long we could keep her going on this thread. We’re so mean.

Ya know, on some forums users can downmod comments for contributing absolutely nothing to the discussion at hand.

You know, I thought I was completely heterosexual but now I’m not sure. Maybe I should give my doctor a list of ten names and ask him to prescribe any three, just to make sure. I’d tell TheMom it was medical research. That would fly. I think. Maybe. Maybe not. Not really. No.

I tell you, support for research, pure or otherwise, is lagging in this country.

Thedad-
What 3 names are you asking your doc to prescribe? Meds or therapists? So if he/she prescribes Tom, Dick and Harry, you’ll figure out if you are heterosexual?

;), by the way… :D

Jon Stewart last night suggested that perhaps the cure Haggard underwent was parallel to what our fathers often had us do when they caught us smoking.

I think discussion of this topic is good. Eventually we will reach some kind of truth or conclusion. We’re on the right path.

hey-- we have more important things to talk about… Anna Nicole Smith died. Lets put this in perspective (she says VERY tongue in cheek)

My worry is that parents of gay teenagers will bring them to Haggard to be “cured” of homosexuality the way he was. I don’t mean that in a risque way. I am really concerned about the effects on the kids of being told that if they’re holy enough, their orientation will just disappear. There have been some tragedies that involved teens being brought to think kind of therapist.

Current liberal orthodoxy holds that sexual orientation is both immutable and genetically predetermined and that since it is beyond the control of the individual it ought to be treated like other such human characteristics like race, sex, hair color, height etc. I have never looked into the scientific evidence, but understand it is not a question a lot of scientists want to tackle because it is so politically charged these days. I know some researchers in the Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine recently caught a lot of flack for “curing” queer sheep. Their research tended to confirm the biological underpinnings of homosexuality unfortunately the fact that they could actually “cure” the sheep, and they could, infuriated some in the Gay community who don’t consider homosexuality to be something that ought to be cured even if it could be cured.

Now here is where it gets interesting. What if there is a cure for homosexuality or inversely a pill that could turn you into Rosie O’Donnel? Does it then make homosexuality a moral issue? If you really do have a choice in the matter does it give the rest of us the green light pass an informed moral judgement? If there is a ready cure for smoking, drinking, gambling, obesity, sexual addiction, video game addiction would we hesitate to place a value judgement on the personal choice involved versus the effect on society, friends, and family that choice has?

BTW if the theory is correct that homosexuality is biological one would expect the incidence of homosexuality to be a constant across cultures and countries and eras - unless of course there really are filthy Commies out there putting something in our water - mix yourself a drink the grain alcohol and rainwater are next to the ice bucket.

Like blood types and eye color. Completely constant across cultures, countries and eras.

gee did you consider that maybe homosexuals had to hide who they were for fear of death, banishment, family shame or whatever

just because it isn’t tolerated in a community doesn’t mean there aren’t gays or lesbians in that community

look and priests and nuns and the army for heavens sake—don’t ask don’t tell doesnt mean there are no gays n the military- they just can’t talk about it

Ten characters.

higherhead,

That last post seems quite silly. really. How did they cure the sheep? through prayer? Maybe they bought Haggerty’s 2 CD set? I’m sorry you see homosexuality as an affliction. sad very sad. WWJD?

“Like blood types and eye color. Completely constant across cultures, countries and eras.”

Interesting point, so I suppose the incidence could be higher or lower in some races and ethnic groups.

“gee did you consider that maybe homosexuals had to hide who they were”

Of course I did. The incidence of homosexuality is different from the number of homosexuals in most societies.

“How did they cure the sheep”

Well sheep of course have never been observed to pray to the best of my knowledge but they have had their sexual orientation changed. Here are a couple of links.

<a href=“The Times & The Sunday Times: breaking news & today's latest headlines”>The Times & The Sunday Times: breaking news & today's latest headlines;

And if you think my post was silly try this link

<a href=“petition: Stop the experimental murders of homosexual sheep!”>petition: Stop the experimental murders of homosexual sheep!;

“I’m sorry you see homosexuality as an affliction.”

An affliction is any condition a person does not want to have. For instance being very tall or very short or plug ugly can be afflictions or not depending on how they affect the quality of your life. Right now there is a big bouhaha going on at Galludett University which is a school for the deaf. It basically involves the question of whether or not deafness is an affliction and if cochlear implants which can cure deafness for very many people is in effect an attack on deaf culture and a sort of racism or genocide.

I would venture to guess that most people would consider deafness an affliction and think it a good thing to cure it but there are those who don’t and consider the cure a sort of cultural genocide.

Incidentally the homosexuality rate among Rams is 10% a number fairly close to what many researchers think it is among Americans.

I can see those 4 ministers now…you’re a baaaaaaaaaaaad sheep.
I notice no one cares about lesbian sheep. sigh. so patriarchal of them.

higherlead–
post # 1? Are you changing your stripes again?

Is this one of those "panda"posters?

(Eats shoots and leaves) :D

LOL Jym…so many of the “newbies” really have such a comfy familiarity about them…strange…

Allmusic (and mommusic)
so true, so true…
Except that this time we get links instead of quote boxes… such a disguise ;)

oh my. it’s been completely misleading news. He did not go off to a prayer “cure gay folks” place. I suspect he went to the Meadows.
While 150% supportive of gay-is-normal, if the acting out is considered trauma reinactment (ie he was a victim of child molestation) they would help him try to understand what’s going on. He may still decide at some point he’s gay but sounds as if they are treating it as the acting out of a sex addict-very different than gay and hiding it like many men.
