I mean like a person who specializes in college applications.

No way. I can write about myself without someone telling me what I should think and how I should phrase things.

I’m not, but I don’t think my essay will suffer much if I don’t. I’ll probably let a couple English teachers see it and that’ll be it.

I guess I am. My freshman year English teacher will read my essays and she used to be a Dartmouth admissions officer, so she’s the closest to a professional I’m going to get.

I don’t need someone to phrase my thoughts, I think it’s nice to have a person to tell you if your ideas aren’t that great though. And I don’t trust my parents that much :p

My friend’s mom is reading mine and she’s a writer…

No. Just people on here, mostly.
I’ve had teachers look at my essays a couple times, but people don’t apply to selective schools where I live, so for the most part they’ve been unhelpful because they think the essay is just a formality.
I’ve showed them to my mother, but I don’t think she even understands that I’m writing essays for college admissions. She tells her friends on the phone that I’ve written a “cute short story,” so I’m pretty sure she doesn’t take me seriously as a writer anyway.

I might have my English teacher look at mine, and maybe someone on CC, but that’s about it. My parents don’t know how to judge a college essay, so I won’t even bother showing them.

After I actually write them, I’m going to have my friends and English teacher look at them, maybe another old teacher I’m still in touch with. Then, after I’ve refined them completely, I’ll ask some people on CC to look at them.

parents always think they know best about essays, but mine have no idea what the purpose of the college essay should be. like heather said, they see at as a formality rather than a game changer.

On a side note, does anyone know what time the CA is released? Midnight?

^Jesus mate… it’ll be there in the morning lol.

I’m actually really eager to start it lol

What, it’s almost August. Time to start my summer homework.

^ LOL me too. And I start my ACT prep tomorrow, 32+ or nothing.

I’m having mixed feelings with the CommonApp. I want to apply early, but I don’t understand the process. If we fulfill their requirements, would they tend to send results right away? If not, would we apply anyway and still send them our scores and all as the school-year progresses? My only concern is with my SAT score. I will be rataking it in October. /:

My SAT tutor, who also specializes in college apps will be reading my essays. I’m writing them all this summer. I finished 7 out of 9. I’ve recycled, but once they are revised and ready to go, which should be in a few weeks, I’m going to start applying. Good luck everybody! :)

You’re writing 9 different essays? What?

I’m writing 1 common app essay and 1 supplemental essay for 9 different colleges.

time to start ACT prep, summer assignments, common apps, and all the other ******** ive been putting off. :(

i’ve spent the last 7 hours doing my summer assignments. Still not even half way done. School starts tomorrow. Yay!
