Just saw someone use the word “adcom” on Facebook. #worldwideCCtakeover

^ I used it in casual conversation over the summer with adcoms, and they said, “Adcoms…? Does that stand for admissions committee? (Me: Yes, lol) College Confidential talk? (Me: nod of shame)”

First LoR is agonizingly generic… gah.

Bringing it back…Legend of Korra was awesome, can’t wait for season 2. ATLA was even more awesome. The movie and M. Night Shamalamadingdong should be eliminated from the Earth…permanently…

Yeah, yikes, I even liked the Eragon movie better than The Last Airbender.

I’m so ready for Legend of Korra Season 2. I mean, we’ve been waiting long enough.

I only watched the first 6 episodes of Korra; thanks for reminding me to finish season 1!

Not that I need another reason to procrastinate.

I got my official senior year schedule today and it was bittersweet to say the least. I mean, I get excited when my schedule gets posted but just knowing that it is my last one and I have to worry about college applications and stuff soon makes me nervous.

Two weeks until the first day of school and I’m officially excited for it. The first week may be my favorite; I love all of the early year things like getting your paper schedule, locker assignments, and textbooks, filling out student information sheets, getting syllabuses (or syllabi, which is it?), and whatnot.

I don’t get my schedule until the first day of school next Tuesday.

I’m supposed to get mine tomorrow, but my counselour contacted me ahead of time because of a schedule conflict and I found early.

^ Good luck with that.

Common App question! If you guys listed honor societies like NHS under Honors, did you list them again under the Activities section?

I wouldn’t unless you had leadership.

Does NHS go in the honor section? I was just gonna put it in the activity section… What about National Merit? I know I’ll probably qualify for it in some form, but how are we supposed to know if it’s semifinalist, finalist, etc in time? (And therefore, state or national?) What other stuff counts as honors? Would you guys put school awards like “English Achievement Award”, or is that kinda lame? What about book awards, like the Harvard book award? What about a “certificate of merit” from a state math exam? I should probably be asking these Q’s somewhere else but yeah haha.
Btw, I hated the Avatar the Last Airbender movie too…

Hey, I have a random question. How are some people doing interviews already?

If you have room, list it. I personally don’t see the harm, unless it’s a reallllly dumb thing (whatever that means).

My school doesn’t give awards unless you’re a) low-performing or b) almost graduating, so the extent of my list is student of the month and AP scholar (even though schools should just be able to tell). I don’t even think I’ll be commended for National Merit LOL. Semifinalists do find out in late-Sept according to the website, though.

National Merit Commended cutoff is 203.

But no one likes the PSAT or SAT anyway

^ amen to that! is commended the same everywhere, or does it vary by state? if not, lolol, not commended. thank goodness for the ACT!

edit: actually it doesn’t even matter, my state always has a high score. it’s so unfortunate.

about interviews: you can do them any time, although it’ll probably be most effective close to application season… I had an interview at Carleton a few days ago.

Also, *** in California the cut off was like 221 and I got a 216. I was ****ed.

Quidditchcat, was your interview on campus? Carleton is pretty high on my list but I can’t visit until later this year so I’m interested to know what the people are like there.

National Merit Commended is the same for everyone.
