@Studious, hahaha no, I’m not going to WAB, don’t worry. (: I’d rather not say where I’m going here, for obvious reasons, but if you want to know you can PM me.

@kzo, lmao your teacher sounds…interesting.

@bunnywins - My school is very interesting. A freshman got kicked out a month back for chasing a kid with a lighter and a knife. He also tried to stab my friend with a box cutter. The expelled kid wears a weed necklace so assume what you want about him

@studious–Really? Which level did you take? The NLE organisation said that they would mail out score reports by April 20th, so that’s odd. If you remember any specifics from the test that you were unsure about, I could try and answer them for you.

@kzo–haha, that’s pretty funny. umm, someone’s fighting in the hotel hallway, I think. We my family were 3 of the 1,000,000 people in Alabama without power, so we’re taking advantage of free accommodations through my stepdad’s work. I actually signed up for Spanish, but got put in Latin…All of the Spanish teachers at my school are loud, and psycho.

Essay writing has always been my weakest point. Do you guys know how I can improve my writing skills? This degrades me because I feel like since my essay skills are weak, I shouldn’t take AP classes since the tests have an essay portion… Do you guys have advice? I’ve been asking my English teacher for guidance after school 1 vs 1 ! But, I don’t know how I can improve independently.

You guys think your schools are crazy… I could go on for days… We’ve had knives pulled, people killed, every drug you could imagine… Drunk driving… Gangs… It’s just great ;)

Geeez, where is your school?

My school isn’t crazy at all. It’s quite dull, actually.

@Absolutely, just practice writing 5 paragraph essays a bunch. Basically, write your opening paragraph like this: Hook, basic info, thesis. My thesis statements always just list the three topics I’m about to discuss (in the three body paragraphs). Then, you organize three body paragraphs that each contain important facts and details pertaining to that paragraph’s topic, and make sure it all relates back to the opening paragraph and thesis. For the conclusion, restate the thesis and summarize, and end with a strong emphasis on the overall purpose/point of your essay.

If you can master the five paragraph essay, you’ll be able to incorporate your writing prowess in the SAT and AP essays. They might have different formats, but the deviation is slight and your foundation (of writing) will be solid. Also, remember to use appropriate and varied vocabulary and syntax (sentence structure) throughout all forms of essay writing.

Evan, the Latin teacher at my school is keeping the results for later–no idea why. I took the Latin 2 exam. If you’re wondering why I’m a year behind, it’s because I took three years of Chinese from 6th to 7th grade (in Beijing), so I took Latin 1 last year. I plan to take AP Latin senior year.

Well, hey, you’re a year ahead of me! Which isn’t saying much, because the way our school system does stuff is pretty terrible. Which is probably why they’re $19 mil. in debt. Woot woot.

@Evan outside of dc lol

@jereve – ah, okay. I love love love DC.

@studious – what classe are you taking? I’ve seen your posts on here before, and you seem to be highly impressive accomplishment-wise.

@jerevedeparis - ha dc’s a tough place. But my town, west Hartford, was ranked in the top ten towns in the us. And we still have kids chasing other kids with a shank and a switchblade. That happened in December. And a couple of months ago, some students tried to sell me crack…

@Studious: Thank you! (: My teacher gave me an essay prompt that I wrote (typed) & I gave it to her! Haha, she is correcting it and she said this is how we can start improving. Thank you! I hope to be getting 4’s on my papers instead of 2’s & rare 3’s. I appreciate it.

@kzo lolololol I live in an expensive area in one of the richest and largest counties… But kids will be kids you know?

@Evan it really is a great city! I should spend more time there… I’m thinking about applying for a summer internship down there but I don’t know if my parents would let me go alone…

@jerevedeparis - kids really gotta stop doing this at school or they gotta act more responsibly. For example, I was walking down to tennis practice through the students lot on friday and I almost got run over 4 times (by the same guy) and I saw three condom wrappers on the ground. What is going on?

@jereve – my stepsister stayed there for a month last year as an intern at congress. I want to intern somewhere like that.

@Absolutely: Your welcome! By the way, I’m glad you’re being proactive and taking Algebra 2 over the summer! It will definitely show colleges that you’re dedicated to learning.

@Evan: Thanks for the compliment! Are you asking about my current classes? If so, here’s my schedule:

-Drama 1 (one of my most stressful classes, and the only class I’ve gotten an A quarter grade in–the rest being A pluses)
-Pre-AP World History (insanely easy, but our teacher just gave us a ridiculous sixty page packet. I guess all good things must come to an end…)
-PE 9 (lol)
-English 9 (lol x2)
-Alg 2/Trig Honors (easily my favorite class… Best math teacher ever)
-Resource (school wide required class; a study hall every 6th block)
-Biology Honors (really difficult class, but it’s gotten a lot easier since the science fair is over… I’ve had to work for my A plus here)
-Latin 2 (kind of a joke class because of the teacher, but I still work hard)

My high school is public and huge, with about 700 people in our class, but I came from a tiny Catholic Middle School with no real course selection. Thus, I am tragically behind in math! My schedule this year:

Pre-AP English I
Pre-AP Civics/Economics
Pre-AP Physical Science
Pre-AP Alg 1 =(
Health/PE (required)
Communications (required)
Spanish III
Drama I

Would’ve taken Geometry over the summer…but it’s $400 dollars I don’t have. Thus, next year’s schedule:

Pre-AP English II
AP World History
Pre-AP Bio
Pre-AP Geometry
Pre-AP Algebra II
Pre-AP Spanish IV
Drama II
Journalism I

Problem with my school is that to be involved in an EC, you HAVE to take the class. Thus, if you want to be in plays and go on forensics tournaments, you have to be in drama. And to be on newspaper you have to be in Journalism. I hate it because I’d rather be taking more AP’s, but, what can you do?

EC wise: I’ve played piano for nine years and won numerous trophies for it as well as playing for my church; I’ve been in a summer theater program at our Arts Center for five years; I’ve been in one Mainstage Show and one school Play; I’m involved with my Catholic Church’s youth/community service group; and I’ve taken dance for 11 years. All my extra-curriculars are art-related, lol.

@Emerald: You’re EC’s are looking great ! (: Haha, I played piano from 2nd grade - 7th! But I guess I stopped due to numerous reasons. I’m in show choir this year, it’s really fun. But the fact that your EC’s are all art related really looks good! Do you want to major in Visual & Performing arts ? (:

@studious, No problem! Also, what’s your name? It feels weird addressing you as studious when you call me by my name. Odd that drama is one of your hardest classes when it is one of my easiest. Well, we do some work, but not much (ie. if you pay any attention in class, do your assignments, and bring stuff to rehearsal, you get a 100). I was also wondering about next year, unless you’ve already posted that. In which case, tell me and I’ll go look. Are you taking AP World? That seems par for the course for sophomores on CC, but at my school, we take AP Euro as sophomores. They don’t offer a course in AP World. Wow, this post has become extremely wordy and longwinded–just like my essays. Hahaha

@Absolute: Thanks! My grandmother was a concert pianist in the Philippines, so from a young age I was forced into lessons, but I grew to start loving it once I hit about fifth grade. I would love to major in Musical Theater, but I’m not sure if I’m prepared to take that kind of risk and devote myself to that kind of life.
I really love to write (though I don’t think “writes novels, short stories, and poetry in free time” is a valid enough EC) and I might do something with that.

@Studious: I understand how drama can be one of your hardest classes. >_> It definitely is time-intensive at my school. My teacher is demanding and obstinate and nearly impossible to please.
