High School Class of 2014

@collegeluva, I took mine once and am not planning on taking it again. I am, however, planning to take the ACT. I got a 2260.

My question is, how are you guys getting these high scores?!! lol.

If it makes you feel better, I got (and am not re taking ) a 1930.

I think I’m somewhat of a weird applicant. I have an award a lot of people think is good, but it’s only one. I have pretty low grades for someone like me (i.e. I think most people expect Asians to get all As), and have had personal problems in very important years, such as junior year. I have a decent SAT score, though people tell me it’s high.

Also, my mom thinks I should apply to 20 or more schools because she thinks I won’t get into any of the schools on my list. She thinks I’ll have better chances if I apply to more. That’s so freaking expensive though. She’ll probably hold a grudge against me later on because she could have spent the money on something else, even if it is her fault.

At this point, I could see myself getting into 5 out of 12 schools.

FantasyVesperia, College Confidential is full of these “nerds” xP

@yayitsme123 I feel the same way about MIT. I’m extremely into Chemistry, but also theatre

SAT 1: 1940
SAT 2: 1990 (2020 superscore)
SAT 3 (October): 2200? (hopefully)

ACT 1: 36

Get on my level.

My GC made me add a ton of EA schools since my only one was MIT haha.

CMU
CWRU
Cornell
Duke
Ga Tech
JHU
Lehigh
NW
Princeton
Purdue
Stanford
Michigan
URochester
UT
MIT

Need to have a talk with him. 15 is too many.

My friend told me not to apply to more than 5 because I can’t possibly like more than that. I was like my top 5 are reaches, I’ll apply to my 15.

The super sciencey atmosphere at Caltech is actually the reason I like it so much. I guess I’m just so sick of my high school where there is literally only one other person in my class that’s really into science, and Caltech is the exact opposite of that. My only non-science EC is music, and I figure there are plenty of sciencey people who are into that as well. When I visited I just really liked the atmosphere I felt, I guess.

Honestly if I got into MIT and Caltech I would probably have no idea how to choose. My parents would probably push me towards Caltech, as its a bit closer. I seriously doubt I’ll be lucky enough to have that problem though!

Good luck with your applications as well!

Question. Why, when most RD applications are due around Jan. 1, is there so much craziness on CC and in other places about having college apps done by the end of September. I mean, I’m not advocating submitting on Dec. 31, but why so early?

Well, a lot of people are taking many AP classes, so they want to focus on schoolwork and wrap up college apps early.

For me, I need to get my list done because even if I’m only submitting around December (first deadline for private colleges, RD), I have this one teacher who wants ALL the recommendation materials sent to her sometime this month. :O

There is something about this thread that I find absolutely amazing, maybe its the fact that it has been alive since 2011 and how the years have past by but the people are still talking and how the high school freshman who started this thread are now seniors getting ready for college, thats absolutely amazing.
Sincerely;
A college freshaman

does anyone know if MIT cares about legacy? Because if i went I would be a fourth-generation. Just wondering because my scores aren’t exactly where i would like(33) and didn’t know if that would help!

That is pretty cool. Honestly though, I’m pretty glad I found this site at the end of my junior year. Coming here as a freshman would have made high school so much more stressful.

@texasteen not to be discouraging or anything, but last year’s valedictorian applied to MIT and both of his parents went there and he was rejected. He’s at Brown now, but still. That just still really bothers me for some reason. Oh, the college admissions process.

Yeah, I’m not sure that MIT considers legacy. I know someone at school who keeps saying “It’s a pity I’m double legacy at MIT, and not, say, Stanford” (Stanford really cares, I think).

8 of 8 from my school went to stanford on legacy (although 6 had sports).

MIT doesn’t ask for alum relations ad their CDS said it is not considered.

yeah. MIT is probably the most “forward” school of HYPSM, ivies, and other top colleges.
