High School Class of 2014

I go to bed between 10:30-11:30, and I get up between 5:30-6. Bus comes around 7ish and school starts at 7:30.

You guys have great school start times. I’m ridiculously jealous.

I go to bed at 11:00, fall asleep at 12:00, get up at 6:30, and school starts at 7:50

I wish they would have school start around 9. Students would probably do better. Personally, I’m hardly even awake until my second class. I wake up at 5:30, go to bed around 11 and school starts at 7:20. My bus comes really early though.

Anyone taking the PSAT as a sophomore? I’m taking it so I know what I need to improve on for Junior year.

I might take it

I’m taking it. It’ll be three years straight for me!

I’m taking PSAT. I’m hoping it’s true that it does help you prepare for the SAT later in school.

My school requires all sophomores to take the PSAT. I probably won’t study to see how I do without studying and see where i need to improve when the time comes to take the SAT.

Odd. It’s optional in my school for both Sophomores and Juniors, and you can’t take it as a Freshman.

Class/Teacher Report:

One week has passed, so I’ve had some time to form opinions about my teachers and classes. Here goes…

Health/PE 10 and Driver’s Ed: This is going to be extremely easy, as expected. My teacher allows us to use all of our notes on tests and quizzes, so it’s going to be a breeze. The teacher is nice, and he actually seems like he cares about the class.

Math Analysis: Awesome. Just pure awesome. I’m really into math, so this class is for me. We’re going to learn precalculus in the first semester and the first part of calculus in the second. The teacher is hilarious. She knows her math very well and has already provided some insights as to why we do certain things in math (instead of just plugging in equations). She allows us to retake quizzes and tests because, really, her goal is for us to learn. How great is that? I think I’m going to learn a lot in this class and enjoy it while I’m at it.

AP Biology: Pretty good. I’m the only sophomore in the class, so I don’t have many friends in it. The first two periods were spent doing Active Vote survey’s on the electronic board. It was pretty fun. The third period (yesterday), we started a lab, which was pretty cool. I really like the teacher; he’s my tennis coach, and I know he’s an effective lecturer. We haven’t yet had a real assignment, though (except for the summer one). I think I’ll be able to handle this class pretty easily.

AP World History: Ouch. This class is going to be really tough. My teacher is hilarious, and he is a captivating lecturer. However, the workload is enormous. This week, I probably spent 5 hours doing his assignments. Also, I completely over-achieved on this 5 question assignment he gave (I wrote four pages), and I only got a 95 (which was the highest grade in the class). This leads me to believe that the class will have a lot of work and will be tough to get good grades in. Wish me luck!

Chemistry: I don’t quite know what to think of this class. The teacher is hard to figure out. She’s pretty funny, and she’s taught chemistry for twenty-something years, so she’ll definitely be a good teacher. However, I can’t tell if she’s strict or lenient when it comes to participating in her class and doing assignments. She has these moments of scary uptight-ness, yet seems to be relaxed about everything. Hmmm… Even so, I think she’ll make a very good chem teacher this year. Her second class was really entertaining; she just mixed a lot of cool substances together which caused interesting reactions. Fun stuff.

English 10 H: Ugh. I fear I got the sub-par, super work-heavy English teacher this year. She’s already made us write an essay, and I’ve noticed two blatant grammatical mistakes in her handouts (though I guess one is a spelling mistake; “a island” and “franticly”). I don’t feel comfortable having someone grade my papers who doesn’t know what they’re doing. Nevertheless, she’s not awful, and I have a lot of cool people in my class. Crossing my fingers for a good year.

Latin 3: Yay! I got the awesome easy teacher! This class is going to be a blast. I really like the teacher (I had her last year), and I have some friends in the class. I legitimately enjoy the language, so the homework for this class is actually kind of fun (it’s like solving a puzzle!). I think I’ll have no trouble excelling in this class.

That’s it! Does anyone else want to share their experiences with new classes and teachers?

Excuse the Grammar Mistakes
I haven’t been on CC for a couple weeks now, and since then my whole school plan as changed. I was originally going to continue at my public highschool from the same district I’ve been going to since I was in 2nd grade. But now In a last minute decision, I moved to an International School on a different Continent. My new school as the block system which is my first time using it so to answer

Yes I’d like to share my experience.

Class/Teacher Report:

Gym/Health: She seems really passionate about her job, right now we really are focusing on the Fitness aspect of the class. It’s been very tough so far, and really shows me how much the summer has made me out of shape. We also participate in swimming and as I am not a strong swimmer she makes class comfortable for those who are more at a beginning stage.

AP Human Geography: Coming into the school I heard that this teacher was well liked among students, and as I was supposed to take AP Euro at my old school, and since it wasn’t offered here I went with the only other possible AP that I could get away with. So far we’ve had a vocabulary quiz, and we’ve been assigned reading in a book. He told his about in the states about 35% of students got 4 or 5’s on the AP last year, and students from his class about 85% got a 4 or 5, so considering that. I’m very excited for the school year with him.

English 10: At first I was a bit hesitant with the teacher because right off the bat. Literally on the first day she gave us the assignments find 30 vocab words, and write 15 sentences, in the end of the year we’ll have more than 450 words that we’ll have to be tested on and write sentences about. Also we have to participate on a weekly poetry blog. I was a little intimidated, especially being in a class with people I didn’t know. But as the days moved on, she sort of made participating in English fun, we have group activities that we’ve done often (at least in the first two weeks of school.) She interesting in her own way, and I think she’ll make English fun this year.

Biology: Originally in my old school I was supposed to take AP Biology, but t aren’t offering the class this year because they are waiting for the College Board to make the cuts on the course. I honestly did want to take it, just so I could have the challenge but there is nothing I can do. To start off, I sort of find my teacher a bit boring. At least compared to my chemistry teacher last year who was passionate about Chemistry, but I guess the class is ok. He assigned an Essay about Evolution and Charles Darwin on the first day. I don’t really have much else to say.

French 3: This is one my favorite classes because the teacher is so nice and dedicated. The class is taught all in French, and at least coming from my old school I definitely would be moving at a faster pace over here than I would be by the end of my senior year. I’m usually a bit shy about my French since I don’t really have a really great accent but It’s forcing me to speak in that class and I’m developing my accent quite fast.

Media Studies: I think this class is pretty cool the teacher is really technology integrated and i know this will be a fun year for sure. Although I find him really weird

Algebra II: The same teacher I have for Media Studies is my Math teacher. He’s nice in the class room, and We’ve had one quiz so far which isn’t so bad. I’m not sure what else I am expect.

Geography: I didn’t really have a choice on whether or not I could take the class. I ended up taking it by default. My class is full of 7 students. Talk about small right? It’s really cool having such a small class because I feel like we get more done with such a small class. My teacher is really nice, and it’s nice to start off the day with “Where in the World?” is this picture daily assignments.

All in all I’m really loving the Block System so far because I get an extra day to do my homework, and It’s nice to not have the same classes every day. We will be going on a retreat soon for school just the HS, and I’m excited about that.

My schedule is not “that” impressive, yet I only expect to go to a state university or maybe RIT.

AP US History
Chemistry Honors
English 10 Honors
Algebra II
Computer Programming
Spanish II
Electronic Arts I/Career Seminar “Career Seminar is mandatory…I would have taken something else really…Electronic Arts I was to fill space and not have a study hall.”

With the languages and all, they don’t even “offer” an honors form of the class.

Just
Spanish I, II, III, IV, V
No AP either…kinda dumb

AP US History is the only AP I can take as a sophomore. Next year I expect to take more including AP Comp Sci, AP Human Geo, AP Bio, and Pre-AP English.

I will be signing up as soon as school starts. This one I won’t study for, though. It’s just to see where I am. I’ll study for next years PSAT.

I just lightly brushed on all sections of the SAT, which means I will start heavily preparing after Sophomores PSAT.

Aiming for the NMSQT

I won’t be taking the PSAT this year. I won’t have time to really study because of marching band and my classes this semester. I just signed up for the December SAT because the band season will be over with and it will give me more time to study.

Alright, here’s my class/teacher report:

Spanish 2: This class will be easy! The techer is really nice, I’ve heard she’s very lenient, and there isn’t much homework. And I sit right next to my friend George, and I talk to him for half the period. Fun class (though I don’t really like Spanish).

Pre-Cal Honors: Probably the class where I’ll get most homework (though Chemistry will come close). I’ve had the teacher before, for Geometry in 8th Grade (I went to the high school first period to take math), and he’s a really good teacher, and pretty funny sometimes, but he gives a ton of homework. He hasn’t given quite as much this year as he did for geometry though. Yet.

Engineering 2 (biology): I’m not that interested in biology, but I can still tell that this class will be pretty fun. We’ve already had a couple of really cool labs. The teacher seems really nice, and this is his last year of teaching before he retires. He only gives homework every two or three days, but when he does, he seems to give a lot. I’ve also heard he’s very disorganized. I heard he lost a few assignments last year. I hope he doesn’t lose any of mine.

English 2 Pre-AP: I don’t really like English (well, I love reading but I don’t like writing or grammar), so this class will be pretty tough. I have a ton of friends in this class though, so when I’m not working I get to talk to them. I’m not sure what to make of the teacher. She seems nice, but at the same time, she doesn’t.

Chem Honors: The first thing I learned in this class is that I’ll have to show my work. And a lot of it. The teacher makes us show are work for every little detail. We had to show 4-steps just to convert inches to centimeters! So far we haven’t done any chemistry, we’ve just gone over basic unit conversions and measurements and density. The actual chemistry starts next week. The funny thing is, my bio teacher gave us one wroksheet yesterday that basically covered everything we learned the past 3 weeks in chemisty. As for the teacher, he seems pretty funny in a sarcastic/fake mean sort of way. He tends to poke fun at students in a joking sort of way.

World History Pre-AP (my school doesn’t offer AP world history): The teacher is horrible. I mean seriously, she just got her teaching credential, and they have her teaching pre-ap world history? Well, she does have a master’s degree in teaching as well, and she has experience homeschooling her kids, but she didn’t even major in history in college! I don’t know what the school was thinking. All the people that sit around me agree, but we can’t really explain why she’s a bad teacher. She just is. As for the class itself, it seems like it’s going to be pretty easy. There hasn’t been much homework, and it’s been pretty quick and easy, at least so far.

New to this thread. Hello everybody!

0: Honors Pre-Calc (this is gonna be hell)
1: AP Chemistry
2: Spanish 3
3: Adv. Orchestra
4: English 2 Acc.
5: Water Polo
6: AP European History

Taking the PSAT this year, shooting for a 210+!!!

Okay here’s my class and teacher report
Gym/health: It’s gym, not exactly rocket science. I’m just really happy that I have a couple friends in it. It just sucks that I have it first period when the grass is still all wet :frowning:
Orchestra: Still as awesome and easy as last year.
AP Psych: The teacher is really funny and it doesn’t seem very hard, the material is so interesting. The only thing is that there are a lot of people who should definitely not be in AP.
Alg II: My best friend is in this class. I hate math but this year seems like it’ll be ok. My teacher’s young and very inexperienced…
H English 10: Slightly worried, I’m not great at English and it seems like it’ll be hard.
AP Human Geo: Cool teacher, easy quizzes
Biology: My teacher is insanely pretty… :stuck_out_tongue:
H German III: I’m not sure yet. I’ve had the this teacher before (taught german I at the middle school before old german teacher retired) and I speak good German so I’ll definitely do well but we have our first test next week and I’m not sure what to expect. It is an honors class now…

My Class/Teacher Report
Algebra 2- I hate him. He barely ever teaches. I’m going to work my butt off for an A, but I’m worried about whether or not I’ll learn the material.
Intro to the Majors- It’s a pointless class, and the teacher kinda gets on my nerves. He hasn’t been that bad this year though.
Band-I love my band director! He’s practically a second father.
AP Euro- I’m taking this online, but I like the teacher so far.
Chem Honors- I love her! She has this wonderful dry sense of humor.
