I don’t have any current teachers added. He found out from his fiancee, who is my SGA advisor, that I posted it. But I think that it’ll be a learning experience and something to boast about on my application to boarding school.

Critical reading and writing were very easy. Math should have been easy but I have this thing about timed math tests where I freak and can’t think logically. I left one omitted, and I know I made one stupid mistake (at least it was on the grid-ins so I won’t lose points) and judging by my performance on SSAT last year that won’t be the only one. I’ve always had confidence problems with math even though I go to math club and take precalc…

My math teacher (who is AMAZING) told us that she herself always did better on the CR/W than math. Basically the PSAT/SAT requires you to use tricks (that you don’t learn in school) in order to solve most of the problems within the time limit. The tricks aren’t really that hard to figure out if you actually think the problems through, but 25 minutes isn’t enough time for most people. The good news is if you do practice problems from older tests you’ll pick up on the tricks because they use the same ones over and over.

Okay Imma shut up and stop trying to justify my bad performance :(

Hey! I know this is looking waaaay ahead but what are you planning to do this summer? Like summer programs, internships? I need some ideas, what are some good programs any of you have done or are planning to do involving college credit curriculum or a science program?

I was looking into Harvard SSP or UChicago’s Summer Session. I’m probably gong to one of the two if my application towards a Fermilab high school internship doesn’t pan out.

I’m planning doing community service in my community and going to Summer Ventures in Science and Math. If I’m not accepted into SVSM, then I’ll keep my current part time job and still do volunteer stuff.

The only thing, as of now, that I have against me for the Fermilab application process is the fact that I’m of Indian descent. Fermilab likes to stress the fact that they like diversity in the sciences.

Am I underqualified?
I have taken Algebra II (freshman) and am currently taking Precalc. A+ in both (I actually have a 100% average in pre-calc at the moment :p). I took biology during my freshman year and am taking chemistry right now (A). I am taking a college-level human biology class (though this doesnt really relate to the Fermilab internship subjects, blah) and have an A. I also plan to take a college-level calculus class in the spring. And I plan to self-study physics and computer programming.

Just got my finals results back, and I finished with As in all my classes! (Barely scraped by with an A in Calculus, though. Those finals were killer)

I’ve had friends who’ve gone, and say they loved it. It’s not a hidden fact that this, and other University summer programs, are mainly there for profit, though. Harvard is pretty generous in fin aid for SSP, so it might end up being worth it.

I don’t think I qualify for financial aid, but still for 10,000 I feel like I could be doing something more important maybe even for free. But I really want to have the chance to study at Harvard’s campus.

My parents don’t want to send me out of state to do any summer programs through a university or college. I want to do Wash U’s, Carnegie Mellon’s, or Brown’s. But, I think that UNC’s Renaissance Scholars program for minorities should be good enough for me.
