High School Class of 2014

I’m going to Pakistan for a few weeks. Then, I have summer school and I plan on playing a lot of tennis. I also plan on reading through all the books I need to for the 5 AP’s I’m self studying. Also, sleep.

I’ll skate, play music, maybe take a stupid gym class. and of course, sleep and relax.

Over the summer, personally I hope to finish up this Indie game I am making and submit it to Independent Games Festival to try to win. Other than that, I plan to play video games themselves, and read through AP USH, Chemistry, and Algebra II books for next year haven’t found books yet though.

Over the summer I’m going to play a lot of soccer and volunteer at a summer camp for gifted kids. Moreover, I plan to relax and prep myself for a busy sophomore year… hahaha

OMG! That is actually one thing I will also be doing. They tell me if I do well this year, next summer they’ll pay me to do it. Do you think it’s better to volunteer or get paid? I like the $$ but if volunteer is better maybe…

In some ways it’s almost worth it to list it as a volunteer opportunity… but at the same time it’s great work experience as well!! I also forgot to mention what’s going to take up a huge amount of time this summer-- anyone ever do a National History Day project?

Does anyone do crew by any chance? I’m trying to start a team at my school and I’ll work on that over the summer… I’m also going to Europe, doing habitat for humanity… Playing fieldhockey and doing a camp for that… And swimming… And of course studying /: lol

cboe, we have so much in common! Yes I did NHD all three years in my middle school and three times I got to the state, but didn’t get to the national. This year (spring) I didn’t participate because of some special reason. I will participate again next year. I greatly enjoyed doing it. Do you know what the theme is for next year? I love history.

Sorry if I sound ignorant but what’s that? I’ve never heard of it.

@jerevedeparis NHD is a huge history competition where participants research a topic in history as it relates to a certain theme (i.e. Innovation in History) and present it in the form of a paper, website, exhibit, documentary or performance. @luv2sk8 This is really weird/creepy! I didn’t participate in NHD this year, but was hugely involved last year! The theme for next year is Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History

Gosh, you guys make me feel stupid. I’m taking honors bio & honors chem next year, which is pretty much overachiever status at my school & “highly discouraged” by guidance counselors. Then again, so is not taking a study hall, & I’ve been more than okay with that. No study hall also directly equals overachiever. People aren’t allowed APs until junior year; it’s unheard of before then.

I’m only taking 6 classes Soph. Year because I’ll be taking an additional 8 arts classes at an Arts Academy Monday-Thurs. From 12:50- 4:15.

Current schedule (all honors besides geometry & chorus)-

English 9
Geometry - College

Microsoft applications (requirement. Really? I have a 100 average in MA2, & still need to take MA1 at some point because i transferred 2nd semester).

Soph, all honors:

Bio

So yeah…yay for the class of 14.

@anmestudent is your school IB and AP?? And does is say pre-IB on your transcript? Because all my classes are called honors on my transcript, but are taught as pre-IB!

Might as well stick my schedule up here…

Hello fellow freshmen! Nice to see a '14 thread…

My soph schedule next year will be:
Honors Physics
Calc BC
English 10
AP Gov
Spanish III

And since we can take only six classes, I have a dilemna; I have the option to take either debate or a second science class (AP Bio).
I’ve debated in freshman year and hope to get better next year but know that another AP class would help in the college frenzy.

Your thoughts?

@frederico debate would look good too:) do what you love, you won’t regret it (:

Frederico, we can’t answer that question for you. If you take debate, do you think you’ll succeed in competitions, advancing to a regional/state level? If so, success in debate will look better than AP Bio. However, AP Bio looks much better than debate with little or no success. Do what you love. Are you more of a debate guy or a science guy?

This thread has been stagnant lately… New topic: Who are your best and worst teachers this year and why?

Best: My math teacher is fantastic. I feel like I completely understand everything in the class. Her superb teaching has inspired me to pursue some math related activities/competions.

Worst: This is a toughie, but I’d have to say my English teacher. She just hasn’t assigned much–only one essay all year! As a result, I don’t feel like I’ve progressed as a writer at all in the class. My 8th grade English teacher was far superior.

Thanks for spicing things up ;)

Best: my French teacher! She is beyond amazing, I’ve learned so much this year, and I’m actually confident conversing in French, which can be daunting. She absolutely loves to teach, and it pays off big time.

Worst: I don’t even know where to begin… It’s easily my math teacher, she doesn’t teach most days… She’s moody, and when she does teach no one learns much. She never even gave us a textbook… Fail… Not to mention she rarely ever grades our tests until the end of the quarter, SURPRISE YOU HAVE AN F NOW D:

No problem! Ooh, that math teacher sounds awful. I’ve found that math teachers tend to be hit or miss–some can teach advanced mathematical concepts, while others simply understand them (they’re unable to convey this understanding to their students). My math teacher last year was definitely a miss. I actually taught many of my classmates how to do most of the stuff.

@jerevedeparis
Yes, It’s AP & IB.
& it says pre-ib on our transcripts.

My best teacher is my english teacher. She refined the way I wrote my critical essays and really prepared me for AP Lang next year. She’s really funny and isn’t an ordinary teacher…she’ll tell us how the real world is actually like and doesn’t follow the teacher code of conduct or whatever. She got arrested a month ago and she always gets in trouble for saying things she’s not supposed to in class, since she always criticizes republicans and mentions her drinking problem a lot while teaching. I hope she doesn’t get fired, but she’s really the best teacher I’ve ever had despite how horrible her behavior is.

My worst teacher is my physics teacher. He’s this old man who mindlessly hands out worksheets and expects us to know how to do the problems for the following test. He doesn’t explain anything and is so unclear when he decides to lecture. He’s an easy grader though and a really nice guy but he fails at teaching.
