High School Class of 2014

@Studious my school has an awful reputation for math. My principal even told me that he couldn’t afford to get rid of her because he can’t find anyone else that can teach the class… GREAT. Math isn’t my best subject, it’s actually my worst, and I’ve pulled many allnighters in order to pull off an A or an A-

@anmsestudent: Wow… If a teacher at my school told a class she had a drinking problem, she probably be dragged out in handcuffs. My school system’s anti-drug/alcohol policies are so severe that they’ve driven a few students to suicide recently.

Back on topic, though, my best teacher is definitely my Chinese teacher. The way she grades tests and quizzes is ridiculously consistent, she puts everything on Blackboard, and she grades all homework harshly, forcing me to actually learn the material.

My worst is easily my English teacher. Instead of actually teaching us anything, she just starts ********(edit–word filters? what are we, nuns?) discussions that have nothing to do with the class. We’ve had to write two essays the entire year and it took her nearly a quarter to grade them without providing even the slightest bit of feedback. I’ve literally learned more in PE than I have in her class.

@cboe, haha this is creepy! In a nice way though. Thanks for telling me the theme. I will certainly participate NHD next year.
We can talk about it next year. Hope you have fun with it. I probably will make another documentary. how about you?

@jerevedeparis, sorry that you have to deal with that math teacher. My math teacher is not great either. but at least (I think) we know our grades.
apparently you’re into French. Moi aussi, je reve de Paris. Are you in French II? Which book do you use?

Best: civics/econ. He’s AMAZING. He has this hilariously cynical view on life and makes all these personal connections between us and the lessons. Plus we do hands-on things like running our own class governments/economies, with currency, elections, debates, etc.

Worst: Spanish III. Why? It’s simple: she doesn’t speak Spanish in class. At least, barely ever. It’s the most infuriating thing.

Best: History, by a long shot. She always makes class interesting, makes things easy to learn, and knows her stuff. It doesn’t help that she’s also the scholars bowl coach and loves me since I’m the only freshman on varsity.

Worst: Prooobably my old (1st semester. She’s gone because she had a baby) English teacher. She’s a total *****, prefers when I use the sentence structure of a 5-year-old, and doesn’t know what she’s talking about.

@luv2sk8 we use bien dit! But I also have the alley viens! book as well but shhhh my teacher wasn’t supposed to give away any of the old books… this is my third year of French because my school made me take French one split into two parts, so half one year and half the other. Biggest waste of time ever -_- and they won’t let you test into IB French or French 3 as a frosh. How about you? Which book? Do you like your book?

2014 represent! I’m happy to finally see a '14 thread on here ;D

My school doesn’t offer honors/APs, so my schedule for next year looks like:
English 10
Western Civ. II (will probably self-study to take the AP Euro exam)
Bio
Algebra II
French III
and most likely Orchestra, Photo, and Drama II

@jereve–my school uses bien dit! too.

@evanh14 wooo it’s a really great book!

@jereve, our textbook is also bien dit. I think it’s a good book. My french teacher is awesome, even though her pronunciation is not the best. (She admits it. she told us to listen to the audio of the book to make sure we say it right. But she teaches really well. I learn so much with her.

@luv2sk8 awesome! Not having a good language teacher can make things miserable! My first year French teacher was the German teacher… Needless to say she didn’t speak a word of French. It was so awful!

Yeeess, I agree with that. Luckily, my Latin teacher is AMAZING.

@evanh awesome! Any chance you’ll have her through high school?

jereve, it almost sounds funny! how did it work? :D

@jereve, which vol of bien dit are you using? you’re in French III, right?
