High School Class of 2014

I’ll probably be applying to a few lesser-known research internships, as well as a few summer schools like Harvard SSP (I probably won’t afford to be able to go, though)

I’m applying to Summer@Brown and maybe some others.

I’m probably applying to the UChicago Summer Session, Harvard SSP and a few various internship positions. Nothing too fancy, really.

Harvard SSP is too expensive for me. And its financial aid doesn’t look very substantial. Brown, on the other hand, has Dean’s Scholarships that seem to be a lot more helpful, finance-wise.

I’m applying to two programs only for NC residents, but I’ve gotten letters from Summer@Brown and the summer programs at Carnegie Mellon and WUSTL.

I wish I could do a summer program. I’m taking the ACT in February, and it will be too late for many of the summer programs. =(

Hey guys!! I haven’t been on this thread in sooo long. I’ve recently moved abroad for school, and Its been hard getting adjusted thought I think I’m really starting to like it over here. Would anyone be kind enough to summarize what has happened in this thread these past couple months? Like towards mid september on, they can be brief summerizations. I just want to know what I missed because this thread as grown significantly since I’ve last been on here :)

How is everyonee? Are you guys excited for psat scores? I think they are coming out either this week or next week!

REALLY? I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR SO LONG THAT I FORGOT ABOUT THEM. yayyyyy <# i think i did really well on that thing. it was surprisingly easy :P

I think I got at least 215 on it. I also can’t wait! ugh…someone told me that our school doesn’t pass it out until march though…

^^^holy poop, are you serious? I completely forgot! mrrr…don’t think i did too well, lol

Oh gosh, I want those scores back so badly. I’d be thrilled if I got a 180/185 or above, since I didn’t study at all. My state’s cut-off is normally around 205, mwahaha. :D

When do we get them?

I’m really excited to see my scores. Crossing my fingers for a 220+!

They’re released at disparate times from school to school. Some as early as December; others, as an above poster mentioned, not until March or later. Most schools, however, distribute the score reports from mid-December to mid-January.

I’m not so excited… My driver’s ed teacher gave us 20 minutes on each section because she “didn’t know” FACEPALM hdhahja but it wasn’t too hard… My math will most likely be dismal though

What about PLAN scores? Any of you?

hello
sophomore schedule:
chamber choir
ap world history
religion (required for all 4 years :/)
accelerated lit
accelerated french 2
honors pre-calc
honors chem

ec’s:
varsity tennis
youth symphony-violin
in the process of starting a club and going to volunteer at a hospital

My ec’s are a bit lacking at the moment…

I got my PLAN scores-composite score of 28. 29 in math, 24/25 in english, 31 in science if I remember right. I knew I hadn’t done much better this year since I spent too long checking my answers before moving on to the next question.

I’m taking it this Wednesday (PLAN) I think. I’ve never heard of it before but the state is making all sophomores take it. I don’t know anything about the format. I won’t be studying for it because I have two final exams and two final presentations due next week.

Hey! I was wondering if anyone on here could give me some advice about summer programs…

I’ve been looking for two different kinds of programs. First, I’ve been looking for an adventurous research program in the western US and Canada. I see lots of things like Adventuretreks but I want something with an academic focus and maybe volunteer work. Either way I want to be productive while seeing things like Mt. St. Helens, Columbia River Gorge, places like that.

Also I am looking for DNA science programs. Basically anywhere.

If anyone knows anything about good summer programs or have done anything similar to what I am describing it would be great to have your input! Thanks!

For the DNA program

PLAN scores, as far as I know, don’t really matter since colleges don’t look at those scores…so it shouldn’t really be necessary to study for it…maybe just look over geometry or algebra 1 concepts you don’t remember. If not, it’s pretty straightforward. All you need to know for the science portion is how to interpret graphs. My school actually had all the sophomores take the PLAN and not the PSAT this year, so I had to sign up at a different school for the PSAT.
