To take what ImSoAmbitious said a little further, try and show that you have an interest in something. For example, I’m very much into law, and I try to show it by being involved in EC’s such as Debate and Youth Court, as well as a couple minor competitions involving the world. (French completion, Academic WorldQuest)

Don’t forget to do things you genuinely love as well. I play tennis and help out at my state’s branch of special olympics as well. Those are both things I enjoy doing.

Happy 4th everyone!

@columbia97 do you happen to live in Virginia?

Hey guys! It’s really exciting to know that there’s other people like me who want to go to a good school! Here are my stats:

Soph. Schedule:
(all honors)
English
Geometry
Spanish 3
Health Science 2
World History 2
AP Bio
Chemistry

E.C:
35 hours of volunteering last year, Asia Club, HOSA club, library and museum volunteering this summer, and that’s pretty much it. I couldn’t do much because my parents were too busy to drive me to places.

Also, I’m studying for the PSAT’s. I got a 199 on a practice test, which is okay, but I can do better. Are you guys studying for them, too?

We dont have hosa at our school
Is it a good idea to start it?

Yeah, it’s a national club. I’m sure it’ll be interesting for kids who want to e in the medical field.

@Purpledino: no, but close… new jersey!
also, thank’s for the help everyone! :)

What do you guys think about a Model UN club, I know a lot of schools have it… ?

I wanted to join Model UN this year, but I don’t why I didn’t, aha. A former classmate of mine was in it, and he loved it. You should try starting one at your school (that is,if your school doesn’t have the club).

Hi everyone! I’m from a very small school where most of the kids (if they even go to college) go for Ag fields or similar stuff. I’m hoping for UConn in a few years. I’m a bit biased because I love UConn sports, even though I’m stuck in the middle of PSU country. Anyway, they seem to fit me personally and academically. I want to do journalism/sports management or something similar. Obviously because we’re so small, we have no opportunity for APs or anything like that. I’ve taken the toughest classes available since 8th grade. Here’s my sophomore schedule:

Biology
Spanish II
Chorus
Journalism
Honors English 10
Algebra II
Business Practicum
US/PA history II

3.9 gpa so far. we have no extracurriculars until soph year except sports, which is of no help to me, I can’t play because of a medical issue.

my message was the 2,000th reply! :D

Columbia- I’m joining model UN this fall!

I thought my comment was the 2,000th reply (o-o) … hmph, lol.

Yeah, Join Model UN. It is pretty awesome.

2015 FTW. I can’t believe freshman year is over! ahh!

K…so AP world next year? What’s that about? I heard it’s hard and annoying…and I’m taking like 2-3 other college classes that they offer at a nearby college so I’m pretty stressed out.

Oh and I just found out that I need to take 2 SAT II subject tests for the schools I want to apply to(college)… they REQUIRE it…ugh fmlfml

@Purelysara

Judging from my experience with AP Euro freshman year, and comments made by my classmates, its a much simpler theme than Euro. As long as you are prepared to take some mad notes or sacrifice accuracy for speed by doing online notes, its a breeze (given you have a good teacher that teaches the essays well enough). As in any AP, hard focus should be made on essays as they are a make or brake part of the test, and MP is straight forward. AP World will have much more stuff going on on a larger period of time, but it will just focus on seeing if you know what the basic trends are of each time period and how and why they changed.

EDIT: btw im taking it next year too, and hope to replicate my score of 5 on the Euro one :D

I GOT 5 IN AP GOV!! I know it’s not the hardest AP but still

I’m going to be a sophomore.
I will be taking Advanced honors Chem, Advanced honors English, Advanced honors algebra 2, honors German 3, AP European history, honors chamber choir, honors concert choir and music theory.

Ahhhh, my schedule is going to be completely changed now that I’m probably switching schools. :/

Course Schedule (Catholic school, most rigorous available to a sophomore):

Theology II (no honors available)
Honors Survey of Western Literature
Technology (bleh 1/2 credit requirement)
AP Euro
Honors Advanced Algebra II/Trig
Honors Chemistry
Honors Latin II
Honors Mandarin Chinese I
Dance II
Music Theory II
Drama II

I don’t like it
only 1 AP available to sophomores. Junior and senior year I’m going to take a LOT more AP’s.

Course Schedule 2012-13:

AP Biology
AP Calculus (don’t know which one yet)
Honors English 10
Honors Chemistry
Honors Western Civ.
Spanish 2
Theology 10 (uuuuuggggghhhh Catholic school)

I attend relatively small school, and while I love it there, people seem to think that taking even 1 AP before junior year is completely insane/suicidal. Anyways, I’ll probably will also self-study a bunch (4 or 5) of APs, as well as take SAT II Math 2 in the winter. I regret not self-studying at least 2 or 3 APs last year (when my classes were so easy - 5 honors, but still freshman classes…), because now I have to catch up a bunch this year. Wish me luck, guys. Hope I don’t die :(

Yay, highlight of my summer starts tomorrow. I’m going to a partner at a Special Olympics camp for two weeks! For anyone wondering partners play the sports with the Special Olympics athletes. It’s tons of fun.
