High School Class of 2015

now I’m not sure about AP chem. I may take H. chem instead. If I do that, I will do SAT II math at the end of the school year to get that out of the way.

We have four classes that are 85 minutes each, along with a 25 minute study hall and 25 minute lunch. If you ask me, we need a longer lunch.

@ImSoAmbitious, Ok I understand. There aren’t a lot of classes here that I think I would pass up an AP for. The only class I might take that is non-AP will be Organic Chemistry. I know you could easily read a prep book, but I mean in the same way you could buy a book about Nuclear Physics and read about that (instead of taking the class). My worry is that i’ll be stuck in a room full of kids who don’t care that much about the actual class. I guess it is different in your case because you go to a math/science school (I’m assuming its charter/private) where electives (like Nuclear Physics) have smart kids in them. I do see your logic though.

Sophomore year I’m taking:

Honors English 10
Biology
Driver’s Ed
Gym (required, :P)
Creative Writing
French I and II
World Cultures
Geometry
Algebra II

As for ECs i’m planning on doing French Club, teen court, and maybe some volunteering. My school doesn’t have very many clubs, so it kind of sucks. I do guitar outside of school. I tried Art Club freshman year, but all we did was fundraise, and I tried speech team, but i didn’t really like that either.

@Thiruvin, Yeah, you are correct with that. I could do it, however, APs are easier in that there is a set, defined curriculum and there is a form of validation and achievement with the AP exam. To be honest, I do read many things on my own, I am a history/geography/culture buff and I read everything on my own, but I haven’t thought of it like this until now. And yes, my school is charter. There are so many science electives hear including Nuclear Physics, Organic Chemistry, Optics, Nanotechnology, Quantum Physics, Neuroscience, Polymer Science, Forensic Science, Vertebrate Zoology, Particle Physics, Design and Engineering, Anatomy and Physiology, Oceanography, Technical Writing, Human Life Cycle, Science History, and Physics of Photography. We also have the best High School Comp Sci Curriculum in the country.

In my school, we have a 10-minute homeroom and 9 40-minute periods (3-8 are possible lunch periods). My school doesn’t have off periods or open-campus lunch (its technically against the rules to leave the school before dismissal unless you’re a senior and have a shortened schedule, but lots of kids do it and get way with it). I’m fine with not having open-campus lunch…my schools hidden deep within some suburbs, not on a major rd.
Do most of your HS’s have open-campus lunch (or allow to leave the building)?

@petlover1022, our high school apparently had it a couple of years ago, but for some reason stopped it.

@ImSoAmbitious

Liar. The best high school science curriculum belongs to Thomas Jefferson .

Same here. Several years ago a girl went out for lunch, went missing, and was found dead…:frowning:
School stopped open-campus immediately and won’t bring it back because of insurance purchases.
On a lighter note, the nearest food joint (besides a small deli) is a McDonalds about 3/4 a mile away, and frankly if everybody went there for lunch, the school would probably sued or something by health-nuts.

@petlover, that’s HORRIBLE!!!

@dundunyang

LOL. Someones gettin feisty. I don’t go to Thomas Jefferson so I have no idea. I didn’t say this, I am not a computer science guy at all. My computer science professor, who was voted the best one in some tech magazine, said this himself during my required intro class. I wouldn’t be surprised it if TJ had the best, I am just saying that my school has a wide variety of electives. lol, not to mention, “best” is subjective and this is a dumb topic to start an argument over

@petlover, wow, that is really terrible! I don’t think anything like that caused our school to stop open-campus!

What camps are you guys doing next summer/ what did you do this summer?

AP scores came to Georgia today! I got 5’s on both AP Biology and AP Human Geography. I’m giddy with joy.

@columbia97- I’ve been participating in a summer program that’s focused on college readiness. I also take math and English classes as part of this program, to get a head start for those two classes when school begins. It’s also a STEM focused program, and there’s a trip I go on every week (the program is four weeks). I’m also doing this other math preparation program.
Next summer, if I decide to do the four week program again, I’ll be staying (with friends in the program) at UMaine for six weeks, taking classes, living in the dorms, etc. Idk if I want to do it though, because my family and I planned on going to England for two weeks next summer! :</p>

@HobbitTon- Congratulations :)

Wow I am frustrated. All my friends got their AP scores and my mail didn’t even come.

This summer language camp. For the 3rd year.
Next summer, hopefully the same language for NSLI-Y.

Yes I got My AP Scores! 5s in Human Geo, Psych, Micro and Macro!

Nice job, also, Ambitious :)

I am happy to see all the high scores! :slight_smile:
I got a 5 in Human Geography!!
@HobbitTon or Anyone else who has taken AP Bio: How is it? As, someone who is not too great at science how should I get ready for it?
