High School Class of 2015

^ Definitely doesn`t seem like lying to me.

Really, your school doesn
t start foreign lang. till sophomore year? Huh, my school let
s us start taking it in 8th grade, and I thought that was late :). I
m not taking it this year in order to double up in math, so I really won
t finish ahead of most at my school.

Yeah its so weird! I mean at least start it freshman year so that we can get 4 solid years of it. I think its because my school only offers Spanish and we only have 2 Spanish teachers in the entire school.

Okay I’ve got a question: @CE527M: How did you come up with your username? Does it mean something?

Ah, that makes sense. We
ve got like 3 or 4 Spanish teachers, plus we
ve got French and Latin, though I`d rather take German. Ah, well.

Haha, I`ve always wondered if anyone would ever ask me that. Yeah, not that creative or anything. The C is my first initial, E, middle initial, 527, birthday, M, last initial.

Thats cool!!! I like it!

Thanks. I feel bad for you all, you have to type it all out and can mess it up easily with all the numbers and letters.

Yeah we have only upto Spanish II for non Hispanics. If you already know Spanish then there’s a special 3 year program with Spanish Lang, Spanish Lit, and AP Spanish.

But aside from that I’m so back logged today. I have to do

A Spanish Brochure about our school
Design a ticket for winter formal
Ap Euro reading
And try to finish my online drivers Ed torture as soon as I can.

I should probably start that.

Drivers Ed was so awful. So glad that is over.

On the Psats. How many of you will be content with an “Average Score” of around 160-170?

For me as long as i break 170, I will be content

I haven’t messed around with it yet, but I’m expecting a high score compared to others. And yea, I still need to do Drivers Ed…

The average score for a sophomore is as follows from the College Board website: “The average score for tenth graders was about 43 in Critical Reading, 44 in Mathematics, and 40 in Writing Skills.” In other words, the average composite was a mere 127.

I want a 240…but I know it won’t happen. Hey, aim high right?

I
m sure there will be people getting 50
s on them…

I suppose now would be a good time to start homework, right? I mean, it`s only 8:22.

@Alex I believe those averages considering the 2015 average last year (When we were freshmen) at my school was only like 100-110.

So do you guys only have to do spanish?
At my school we do:
6th grade- French and Spanish/German
7th- French, Spanish/German and latin
8th- Two of languages you did the year before
9th and 10th- One modern language and others to take up option choices. Italian can be taken
11th and 12th- Completely optional, not a very high take up because it gets really hard

Everyone has to study French in primary school, and a few schools do Spanish as well

I do French. You don’t need a foreign language to graduate, but at my school, most everyone does one. We offer English, Spanish, French, and Latin.

At my school, we have standard and advanced diplomas, advanced for those wanting to attend college. For advanced diplomas, we have to have 3 years of the same foreign language, or 4 years of two different ones (2&2). We can start taking foreign lang. in 8th grade, Spanish, and in 9th, we have the option of Spanish or French, and in 10th, you can take Latin. Only 3 languages. I wonder if you being in the UK has anything to do with that requirement. Probably.

I may be wrong, but I’ve got the impression that it’s pretty normal for a lot of people in the US to never, or hardly ever, go further abroad than Canada. Whereas here, I don’t know anyone that hasn’t at least been to France.
Personally I hate French, but love Spanish and German. I have a spanish penpal and take classes, and I’m hoping to spend next summer and my gap year in Germany :)

Yeah, there
s definitely people who do go out of the U.S, but most people just go to different states, and not out of country, so it
s understandable why we don
t learn as many languages. I
d love to take German if my school offered it, I`ve got like the most German last name ever :D

WEll, U.S. is big. A state can be bigger than several countries in Europe. But you drive and drive and you see the same thing everywhere, whereas in Europe, you drive a couple hours you’re in a different country, people speak a different language. it’s so cool. I want to go to Europe.

^Agree
Ive been to 24-25 Countries and around 10 states

And covered more land in the US

Well, I took a practice PSAT today, and I don’t think I did too bad. Higher than average.

CR: 66
Math: 59
Writing: 55

Total: 180

How does that score look?
